Hot doesn't only mean head gasket, could be radiator just needs a flush remove it and see how heavy it is. and wash it out up side down.. could just be the thermastat need to be replace.. but if you do the work your self your could get away with the cost of the head gasket. a torque wrench unless ya got one.. lol ya can always buy one use it clean it up real good and return it hehe.. plus some good nonhardening gasket cement to restick the head gasket both sides metal and gasket.. plus for the inlet gasket... 6-7 hr work time and a 6 packof beer.. good luck

You don't list the year, make, model and engine in your question so it would be hard to give an estimate. But in general it would be at least 5 hours labor and a few hundred in parts. So depending on the labor rate in your area it could run between 500-1500+.

You have trapped air in the cooling system, bleed the air out of the system.

What all can cause a pontiac grand prix GT2004 3800series3 to run hot?

Low coolant, bad thermostate, bad cooling fan. Blown headgasket but unlikely unless the car was driven hot.

Should 2.7 overheat with rad cap off??

it can run hot with cap off due to the pressure needed to open the thermostat, but it would take about 20-30 minutes for it to run hot. if engine is running hot really fast, check for stuck thermostat or blown headgasket. also check the cooling fans operation.

My mazda tribute 2001 coolent level goes down quickly without a leak

if it's getting hot also [ i guess if its getting hot it should be leaking out the overflow tube] i would think it's a worn radiator cap or check the oil for water in it [look on dipstick for cloudy looking oil] blown headgasket.
radiator cap easy fix.
blown headgasket, mechanics expensive fix

2005 Toyota Camry 115k miles has white smoke coming from engine. What could this be and around how much to repair it.

White smoke usually indicates coolant is getting into the combustion chamber, meaning that it most likely has a blown headgasket, or gaskets, if it's a V-6. The cost varies depending on your location, who does the repair, whether it's a V-6 or 4 cylinder. Ball park figure for a 4cylinder headgasket replacement would run somewhere between $800-$1200 ad an additional
$500 if it's a V-6.

Overheating replaced the thermostat it was find and its leaking out the side of the over flow tank.

sounds like a blown headgasket. when it is cold and you start it squeeze a radiator hose while it is cold and if it is hard(has pressure) then head gasket. also check for white milky antifreeze. CAUTION cooling systems are under pressure and contain boiling hot water. If you are not experienced do not attempt to fool with the radiator /cooling system. blown gasket repair $400-600

98 Deville Northstar temp runs up to 240 when idle

Yes it is headgasket. Mine had same problem. Yours might not be severe as of now, you can try these other solutions. THERMAGASKET... Which you can buy online, and get your money back if it does not work... And stuff in a bottle at Autozone Repair headgasket with NanoTechnology! I would try and sell it quick, because these engines are very costly to repair and most mechanics wont even attempt headgasket repair, and plus you have to TimeSert the block...

Blown head gasket

Yes, driving around with a blown headgasket is BADDDD....

If you've never replaced a headgasket before then I would suggest that you not try it without proper supervision and help.
On a v8 when you replace one headgasket you replace the other as well. The gasket kit comes as a set of 2 headgaskets and all other gaskets and o-rings that will need to be replaced. You will need an array of tools to accomplish the mission - some hand tools and some specialty tools for dismantling the cylinder head.
I'm really not trying to scare you off but this is NO SMALL JOB. It will require patience and it will require tools and prior knowledge - so get the HAYNES RePAIR manual for the car and read up if you decide to go for it. I did the headgastets on my Acura Legend v6 - and what should have taken 30 hours start to finish took about 55.
Good Luck and Happy Motoring!!!!!!!
