Question about 1996 Oldsmobile Achieva

I have a 99 bravada. the truck will randomly start right up then die after a few seconds. however, if i put a little car in the intake, it starts right up and runs fine. ive been told its spider injectors, but that doesnt seem right because wouldnt the car stop running once the gas burned off from the intake? im guessing its my passlock system but not sure. im a single mom and i dont wanna spend money on a repair and still have the problem. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

I would start by having your FUEL PRESSURE checked. I think your fuel pump is bad.

It doesnt matter what you did a year ago, check the fuel pressure. That engine needs 60PSI to run, under 60PSI it will not start. Thats where you need to start. A shop will need to diagnose it for you.

For some reason, may be a small leak, the injectors get emptied out when parked. And, when you put some fuel in the intake, it not only starts but also the injection system starts drawing gas from the pump. OR, may be the pump does not pump fuel when you turn the ignition on as it should (this is more likely the case). Now you decide.

93 toyota pickup 4x4 it will stay running after I turn it on to start it up, it starts up then after a few seconds it kills

if I'm reading this right...
... the engine starts and dies within a few seconds.
... you jumpered the fuel pump test connector and it will keep running.
... you smell fuel after trying to re-start when it dies.

Disconnect the plug to the cold start injector. Even if you have an issue with the engine running then dying after a few seconds after doing this, if you don't smell fuel after disconnecting the cold start injector and try to restart it, the cold start time injector time switch may be failing.

Buy a can of starting fluid and have someone start the engine then spray short bursts of the fluid around all the intake fittings. If spraying the fluid in any particular area keeps the engine running, I'd start looking for leaks around that area.

It does sound like an AFM or COR issue considering it dies after a few seconds, but the fuel smell when trying to restart the engine may be a separate issue that needs corrected / isolated first.it will keep running.

Check your fuel pressure. It may be low, or losing pressure from a bad pressure regulator. A thorough test of your fuel system seems in order. (A pressure test can also detect a bad regulator, if it's done properly.)

I have a 99 Jimmy with 4.3 engine. I have bad missing in the engine. I have replaced all wires, plugs, cap and rotor. This unit is still missing and setting a general misfire code. I have no vacuum leaks...

I found the problem and 99 jimmy is running great now. the major problem was the intake manifold gaskets sucking air and causing random misfire codes(bad fuel/air ratio) but also we pulled the distributor as well because from 87-99 the drive gear was made of soft material and sure enough 3 teeth on the dist gear were almost worn right off. We also replaced this with 120$ new rebuilt unit.
Intake gasket kit is approx 100$ and no more than 2 hrs labour and the distributer is real easy to pull and replace once the intakes are off so this is a good time to check dist with little extra labour.

99 monte carlo 3.1 died on side of highway think it might be fuel pump would that be normal

Squirt some starting fluid in the intake if it starts and then dies yes its a fuel delivery problem. If it doesnt start at all check for spark at the plug wires then at the coil. If you have spark and fuel then it could be a number of things could be timing or crank sensor tps to name a few hope this will get you started at least.

Aftermarket fuel pump failure? Try "thepartsladi" store on eBay for low price GM OEM parts. Could also be wiring harness to fuel pump.
