Question about 2001 Ford Explorer Sport

1 Answer

My 2001 Explorer Sport stalls in gear coming to and stopping at street lights or signs. It stalls only in gear when the AC or heat defroster is on. It doesn't stall when in park.

It could be the IAC ( Idle Air Control) solenoid, but I cant tell you how to easily test it. So I ASSUME the a/c works OK when driving? I would replace the IAC first, its a real common problem.

Why does my 2001 sport trac stall at a stop after a long trip

My guess, throttle positioning sensor is failing and won't hold when it's hot. this sets base idle.

The fuse blows? Your vehicle has only ONE fuse? Never seen any vehicle like that ever. Oh, wait a minute! Maybe you DIDN'T TELL US WHAT FUSE YOU MEANT. Tail light fuse, AC fuse, power windows fuse, fuel pump fuse, interior lights fuse, parking lights fuse? Which fuse babe?

I have a problem with my ford idleing, it stalls sometimes at street lights. o2 sensor? where is it, how can i find it?

Depending on the engine in your explorer you may have 2,3 or 4 o2 sensors. these sensors are located screwed into the exhaust system, one before and one after the cat converter, if the truck has two converters then there will be 4 sensors. the problem you listed is that it stalls at idle or stop lights, this sounds alot like a bad idle air control valve which is very common on fords, also try cleaning the throtlebody, use cleaner and a tooth bruch open the throtle plate and clean good, if this doesnt help then i would look at the idle control valve. hope this helps.

1997 ford explorer stalls at red lights or at stop signs only after engine warms up

check for air in the fuel lines going to the rail. replace part of the fuel line with clear plastic hose for testing only, any bubbles in the fuel will cause your problem
