Intermintent start, electrical functions, thinking it is ignition moduke or fuel pump. car never dies after running only headache to get started

I would try replacing crank sensor or have it put on scanner while it wont start

You cant check fuel pressure that way. You have to connect a fuel pressure guage to the fuel rail at the schrader valve. It should have 30-40psi when ignition is turned on. Injectors not functioning properly will cause a misfire Sounds like a fuel pump or fuel going out.

Fuel pump relay, turning the ignition on runs the fuel pump for about two seconds to pressure the fuel rail to start, then the fuel pump relay takes over once engine is started, it relies on a signal from the ignition or ECU (to say keep running). Either the relay has gone down or the relay has lost the signal. Don't bypass the relay, it's a safety feature, to stop the fuel pump if a fuel line ruptures.

I check all relay and don't receive direct electricity to the fuel pump and no start the car


You will never have direct electricity to fuel pump only when running then once you shut off ignition that shuts engine off fuel pump to automatically shuts off.I would change the fuel pump sit in car turn key Th start position do not crank engine if you do not hear a grrr,,,grunt sound i would say fuel pump not functioning therefore fuel pump malfunction replace.

If your not getting the MIL- engine light coming on and you can smell gas and you had the fuel pump replaced. I would sespect the electronic ignition module of being intermintent. It wouldn,t necessarily show as an engine code and would make it so the vehicle would run find one munite and not run the next The other thing you could check is the fuel filter however i can,t see a mechineic not changeing this with the fuel pump

I AM RESTORING A T020 MF. I REPLACED ALL WIRING AND IGNITION SYSTEM AND REBUILT THE CARBURATOR, AND ADJUSTED IT TO SPECS. I GOT IT TO START RIGHT AWAY AND IT SOUNDS GREAT. HOWEVER, IT WILL ONLY RUN FOR...


Ok a quick check. When the engine cuts out and you go for restart it dies within 5 seconds. Next time put the ignition at position 2 (on but not starting) and wait one minute, then start the car. If the engine again runs for 30 seconds before cutting off this tells you its is a fuel problem. If the fuel is supplied slowly it fills the carburettor fuel bowls and when the car starts it quickly uses up these local reservoirs of fuel faster than they can be replenished. When you try to restart immediately there is only a tiny amount of fuel and so it used up almost immediately. By leaving the ignition on 2 for while it gives the pump time to fill the carburettor bowls and this takes a while longer to run down when the engine starts. Just before moving on does the car have a choke OK remove the low tension connection to the coil, basically remove any chance of a spark. Put a big old towel around the carb. Now remove the fuel line at the carburettor and put ignition on 2 to engage the starter pump. Listen to pump operation and look at the rate of fuel being pushed from the disconnected fuel pipe. If the flow is slow check on pump and filters.

Replace the oil sending unit,it has a safety feature of cutting off the fuel when the pressure from the oil pump is low,and the sending unit might be the problem.

The car will not start intermintently. We can not


It usually happens when you have dirt in the fuel tank. Fuel pumps have their own fuel filter which can easily get clogged up by dirt. What happens is when the car is still for some hours the dirt in the fuel tank ( which is mixed with the fuel ) settles down and your car's fuel pump can **** the fuel through it's fine filter. the problem can be solved by flashing out the fuel and changing the fuel filter.
