SOURCE: 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0L oil pressure gauge reading too high

if the gauge starts a 0 - goes to 1/2 , than full - sounds like gauge is OK - seems to me like the sending unit is bad - you could try removing the sender and trying to clean out the port with "brake clean", letting it dry than re-installing it. the pressure switch is still the least expensive place to start

SOURCE: Exactly where is oil pressure sending unit located

if you have the 5.2 V8 its located in the rear of the engine near the dist cap area you can see it if you look in that area , if 4.0 6 cyl its located on the side of the engine block near the oil filter area. It has two wires going to it and screws into the block. It's made mainly of plastic and if broken can allow oil under pressure to spew out and give you thoughts of a blown rear main seal due to the amount of oil all over the underside.

Was the oil pressure checked under a load when the car was accelerating if idle oil pressure was good but lower when the vehicle was under a load it could indicate a partial blockage of the oil pump screen and a posting of the oil pressure numbers would be helpful if you are satisfied with the numbers and the test was done properly and the switch replaced you have a problem with the circuit

Get an oil change first. If this does not fix the problem then you may need to replace the oil pump.

I have a 2002 jeep liberty that the gas gauge will go from full to empty and back to either full or all the way to empty, doesn't matter how much gas is in it what is wrong?

if there are no other wrong gauges then its probly the sending unit in the tank-it maybe corroded or have bad ground--youll need to get a repair book to see how hard it is to fix

Is it common for the oil pressure sending sensor to leak oil from the connecter?

With jeep oil pressure sending units, it is common. They tend to leak, with oil coming out of the wire connector. You will have to replace that sending unit.

Oil pressure light keeps coming on when car is at stop , or just when engine is running , but when you start moving light will come off

Am currently having the same problem. Waiting on dealership to let me know if it is the sending unit or oil pump. I am being told to not drive the car far distances or let it sit to idle for a long period of time.

Yes you have to check your pressure with a mechanical gauge first. If the pressure reading is good replace the oil pressure sending unit. They are known to go bad, and oil pumps going bad is rare.

Jeep liberty 2008

When you open the hood look on the drivers side of the engine. There will be a pulley(Power Steering Pump) that your belt goes around, right under it on the back side is where your oil filter is located. It hangs down slightly angled towards the front of the vehicle. (This is of course the 3.7 liter V6)
