The button to turn overdrive off is usually on the side of the gear shift lever, but that would not make any difference on shifting from low to second and third.

The button changes the way the transmission shifts, power is a more aggressive shift and stays in lower gears longer.

2.9L with automatic transmission shift leaver moves freely from Park to low gear and back without pressing shift lockout button.

The mechanism for the shift lockout button is probably jammed, you will need to disassemble the mechanism to clean/re-lubricate the affected parts.

Hello, I went outside yesterday to leave for work and when i put my 1992 toyota camry in reverse it was not doing so... we had to push it out of the driveway so I could drive... every other gear is...

Is it manual trance-mission or automatic. If it is manual you have to check shifting leaver system & gear selector unit. If it is automatic check selector switch, wiring harness & valve body.

if memory serves its the shift lock button,it allows you to move the stick when engine is off and in park.so you can tow the car the max 35 miles @ 30mph to a local garage.

sorry but time to visit the transmission shop. the only thing you could try first is Lukas Transmission oil sold at parts stores one quart only. make sure you get the oil for transmissions and not the crankcase.

Can not put gear leaver into any gear automatic

There is a shift lock override button under a tab/cover on the shift console. Remove the tab and press the button down with a screwdriver to shift out of Park.

To fix the cause pf the problem, you will need to check the shift lock fuse, the brake pedal sensor, and the ignition switch.

Find the fusebox under the dash. The fuses are labeled on the fusebox door.

The brake pedal sensor may need adjustment or its switch may be bad and needs replacing. Ditto for the ignitions switch.
