Is my 2001 timimg chain or belt

It is a timing belt and it needs to be replaced every 60,000 miles, this is very important as this is an "Interference" design engine, if the belt fails it severely damages the engine.

1992 volvo 240 timing belt replacement

timimg belts usually don't make noise, they break and the motor stops!! The noise could be coming from a bad water pump, powersteering pump, air compresser, alternater, leaky exhaust, leaky vacume lines. Check them out. Or, I don't know the condition of the engin. Has it been neglected and are the bearing going? More history would be helpful.

How to change sonata timing belt

You do not state the type of engine - 6 cylinder has a timing chain, not necessary to replace.

Timimg in a 1999 ford escort zx2

If you look on the right side of the cams (the side that doesn't have the timing belt on it) you will see at the end of the cams there are slots. When you have the crankshaft turned to TDC and you are on the compression cycle you will see the slots on the cams should line up. If you can get a piece of metal (that's the shape of a ruler) that's 5mm thick, you can slide it into the cam slots to line can cams up for compression TDC. If the cam slots line up, but are below the engine head, you are in the exhaust cycle and need to rotate the camshaft 360 degrees to get to the compression cycle. The cam slots should then be above the engine head so you can fit the metal 5mm alignment tool.
