Question about Dodge Durango

1 Answer

Hi i have 2000 Durango R/T 5.9l Magnum.I have a ticking noise that sound like a vavle tap after the truck warms up.The noise sounds like it was coming from the timing chain area so i had it replaced. The noise is still there.I had just the timing chain replaced not the trust plate/tensioner could it still be coming from there.Listening with a stethoscope this past weekend it still is the loudest from the timing chain cover. It has 80,000 miles on it and other wise runs perfect. If it is the lifters i will replace them but the noise doesn't sound like its from up there.Anyone have any insight on this?

Thanks. I had both valve covers off and even replaced the rockers on the drivers side.everything looks good in there.the noise is a rattle when its at about 2000 rpms. But if you let it Kyle long enough it starts to tap. I'm 90% sure its coming from the timing cover but I did replace the chain but not the thrust plate.I would hate to take it all apart again and install a tensioner and the noise still be there.

It can't be the chain, otherwise you would hear a rattle, not a tap. But you should take its cover off and look at the thrust plate - maybe is loose and vibrate.
Since its a tapping sounds it must have something to do with the distribution.Take the valve covers off and check the status of the rockers and the fit of the pushrods. If they are ok then the only thing left are the tappets - find the faulty one and replace it.

Take the cover off and press on the chain - if you feel that is loose, or the plate moves then you will know for sure.

How do i fix my 2001 740i bmw it makes a ticking sound win idleing

could possibly be a lifter tapping (Ticking) ,depending on how many miles the vehicle has on it might be time for lifters to be adjusted, most foreign overhead cam engines must have lifters adjuster periodically ,if you turn on the air its puts more of a load on the engine causing a louder sound (also check oil level an engine low on oil will start to tick too.. the more wear the engine gets the looser the lifters can get over time ,look in your service manual if you have one and see what the intervals are on lifter adjustment this can give you an idea.
possible only if
the ticking sound is coming from the top of the engine usually comes from under the vavle covers where the lifters are located,

Pound ticking noise when my 99 durango starts goes away after the engine warms up

The ticking noise could be a faulty hydrulic valve lifter. When last was the oil & filter changed, it coul be that the oil is thick and not going through to the lifters and when it warms up the oil is thin. It could be that the engine is need of an overhaul as 148.000 miles is 238.182 Kilometers and that is a hi milage.

I have a really bad ticking noise in the engine of my 2000 mitsubishi eclipse

First you want to eliminate the simple easily overlooked causes. One would be that your oil level may be low so it wouldn't hurt to check. Another thing that may cause the tapping sound would be that your running too heavy of an oil weight, i believe for your vehicle the recommended is 5W-30, but generally if you were running say 10W-30 you would only get the tapping sound until the oil has circulated and warmed up. Let me know if this helps, if not we could look toward more mechanical type causes.
