Its a sqare o ring. only use a dealer [vovlo] one, they have been revised to reduce the leaking problem

How can you determine if your oil leak is coming from your turbo on a 2002 volvo s60


Do you have a external leak or does your engine oil drop but you can not see a leak. My S60 had a leak and it was from the return pipe from the turbo to the sump.You can remove the belly plate and look from the bottom at the back off the engine.You will see the return pipe at the bottom of the turbo. If it does not leak at the there the turbo might be worn and it is blowing the oil into the intake.To check remove the intake hose and check for excess oil in the intake system.

OIl from the pcv valve from the oil being retained in the rocker cover from the oil not being allowed to run back to the sump.. Blockage at the oil return line to the sump from the turbo allowing oil pressure to leak past the seals on the turbo shaft. Check for kinked hose or hose failing internally closing it off

Oil from turbo mixes with air resulting in huge volume of black smoke. Likewise, oil from turbo seeps thru connection between aluminum pipe connecting turbo and rubber pipe with nylon coating connected...


Your turbo has provisions for oil to cool bearings and the seals have blown out, although from my experience the result is white smoke if it is pumped into the hot exhaust. The reason it goes is usually a combination of things-high boost at cold temperatures, thicker oil under start up conditions or running oil that is a higher viscosity than recommended. Your crankcase pressures, the condition of the PCV and subsequent systems also contribute to this problem

The return path from the turbo is sometimes the issue and has to be clear, and I think the turbo seals could be bad, but black smoke is usually associated with excessive fuel.. You will also get alot of smoke when the oil return is slow to return the oil to the sump and it backs up into the turbo. It forces it's way out of the seals making it smoke.

There is a oil drain return from the turbo charger to the sump. If the sump oil level covers the outlet into the sump, oil will build excess pressure tin the turbo causing the sealing rings to leak oil in to the intake manifold. This would cause smokey exhaust and loss of oil. Try this. Drain the sump completely, refill with the exact quantity of oil to Mazda spec. Dip the oil and if the new oil level is lower than the full mark on the dipstick, you have found the cause of the problem. Mark this new level with a scriber or file and fill only to this new level. Hope this is the solution.

Oil spray onto underside of cat...v70 2.4 turbo AWD. Possibly turbo oil return pipe, oil seperator is part of block........not the external black one.


there is a seal on t hr breather box that could be leaking if there is oil across the oil pan if it is only on underside of car then the turbo return is leaking that is most common probably 10 dollars for gasket and seal and easy to change

I Put 6.28 quarts of oil in my 2000 sport jeep cherokee when I changed the oil, will It hurt my jeep


If it is just a bit above the high mark on the dipstick then no it should'nt. If you have a turbo fitted then it's best to drain out the extra as the engine oil return pipe from the turbo empties into the sump. If the sump is over filled then the oil cannot get back to the sump it then builds up back the pipe and as the oil has to go somewhere if it cannot get to the sump it will be forced through the seals in the turbo it is then sucked into the intake. If this happen's then a recon. turbo at the least and if a lot of oil is sucked into the cylinders it can't be burned off so will seize the engine.

There is oil in my 2004 BMW 320d return pipe from the intercooler to the intake manifold and smoke when started.


simple. the trubo bearing/seal (probably more the seal) is stating to go and that is leaking oil into the return pipe. take pipe off and have a look at the turbo and see if you can see any oil leaking from inside of it. also oil in the intercooler = bad clean out after fixing the turbo = use solvent or something to dissolve oil but make sure you let the intercooler dry out before re-installing it

Oil in the turbo, smoking bad!


check to make sure the turbo oil return pipe is not clogged. if it is pressure will build up causing oil leak through seal causing it to smoke.

2001 s40 volvo diesel .. turbo oil leak ??


Could be the Turbo oil return pipe seal, its a cheap about $10 but you need to get to the pipe.
Its just a bit tricky to reach and you will need the gasket to go on the other end of the pipe when you take it off.
Its a well know fault check the Volvo Forums web site.
