Question about 2003 GMC Yukon Denali

2 Answers

I have a 2003 GMC Yukon Denali and while driving down the road the reduced engine power, traction control and brake lights all light up. Also when those come on I push the accelerator and it won't go any faster. So I have to stop, shut it off, wait a minute and then start it back up hoping that it wont do it again. I went to AutoZone and they hooked it up the computer and gave me the code (P1516) and told me it has something to do with the Accelerator control. Please help me figure out whats wrong with my vehicle so I can drive it without it quitting on me. Thanks Samantha from Shepherd Michigan

SOURCE: 03 Yukon denali park brake warning wont turn off

hi for info the brakes warning light on dash is also an indication that brake fluid level is low? or there may be a leak resulting in fluid level drop ? also considering age of car you may need to inspect brake pads wear ? if your car has low brake pads wear indicators attached to pads ? or the hand brake switch req's checking to ensure it is being pushed to off position when h/brak is down ? so fluid level low is the obviouse 1st check as fluid will displace from reservoir as pads wear low hence the level indicator on fill cap trips on may i suggest if it is low level b4 you top up? check your b/pads if you have not done so recently? or replaced since new ? hope this helps you locate problem best wishes from the uk

SOURCE: keyless remote wont work, vehicle completely shut down

Hi Russell,

Absolutely no power? No dome light? No head lights? Nothing?
When you step on the brake pedal, no brake lights?

If true, start at the source and pop the hood.

This is going to be a bit of back and forth dialogue. I'll ask some questions and you get me the answers. That way we can get to the root of the problem. To save time, I'll ask multiple questions at a time. Here goes.

  • Check the battery. Is it still there? (Valid question with no evidence of power)
  • Are the terminal clamps tight?
  • Are the terminals clean and free of corrosion?
  • Are all the belts in place and tight? (pay special attention to alternator)
  • If you have a voltmeter. test the voltage at the battery terminals. It should be +12.5VDC.
Try getting a jump, when the cables are attached does anything light up?
Does it turn over and start?
Does it do anything?

Comment me back with your findings
Mike

SOURCE: 2003 GMC throttle position sensor

I had the same problem with my 2003 denali and came to find out that it was the battery causing the problem. the battery with sufficient power will dictate the tps. if the battery is low or bad, it won't have enough juice to allow the tps to. work. get your battery checked.

2003 GMC Yukon Denali Stability Control Disabled Reduced Engine Power

I've had the reduced engine power mode happening intermittently below 40 degrees for the last year on my 2007 Yukon Denali XL. I do not wish to play the game of throwing parts at it by some incompetent repair shop so I've read and researched for many hours! I JUST MIGHT HAVE THE BEGINNINGS OF AN ANSWER. On one of the many forums, can't remember where, someone mentioned they felt like the butterfly was sticking on the throttle body in cold temps. He said, after warming up the engine, he would rev it several times to "loosen it". Sounded ridiculous but it has worked for me for the last 2 weeks. Now, I think the engine power reduced mode is the result of many different running issues but a lot of people complain about this during colder months. Here's a couple of my scenarios: I'm driving down the highway and I can feel it start to "miss" or faintly "cut-out" for several minutes. This is sort of a warning that shut down mode is coming. I pull over, put it in park or neutral and just rev the engine 4-6 times. Put it back in drive and get back on the road. I always make the rest of my 45 minute journey without incident. Scenario 2: it's cold outside and the check engine light comes on. Another warning sign for me that shut down mode is enivitable. I do the same procedure of pulling over, revving it 4-6 times and just go on with my travels. By doing this preemptive routine I have not had the shut down mode problem in the last 2 weeks except for one time when I had just left the house and it hadn't had sufficient warm up time to do the revving procedure yet. It seems to be a short-lived fix that doesn't last more than a couple of days but it has me feeling better about explaining to a mechanic, when I do finally take it in, as to what to look for and how I seem to fix the issue albeit temporarily. My next report will come when it is fully repaired by a "competent" shop. Hope this helps a few of you as its really a free test case diagnostic !

Stability system disabled light on no power

The stability system is software programmed into the ABS - antilock brake control module also the PCM - engine computer . service engine light DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored . Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop or the dealer . You don't have the diagnostic equipment or knowledge to tackle this type of problem .
