I have a 2005 Cadillac STS that displays "Speed Limited to 80mph" Code reads "left rear actuator"...what is the fix for this??

most likely cause is that the actuator ( sensor) for the air ride shocks is telling the car that the suspension is wrong fo rhigher speeds. the "fix" would be to return to the original air-ride shocks and correct any other modifications made. with computerized systems you cannot just make arbitrary changes without re-programing the computer to accept them( a very costly "if available" option

What are pros and cons of converting air to gas shocks? What parts are needed to make conversion?

It sounds like a mechanic has convinced you to replace an automatic leveling suspension instead of repairing it. DON'T. Your car will never ride correctly again
If your mechanic doesn't know how to repair the automatic leveling system, FIND ANOTHER MECHANIC WHO DOES. Best of luck to you.

Air ride compressor is locked up, is it just something that i buy a new one and replace or are there other issues that cause them to fail?

Hi, welcome to FixYa.com my name is Shawn and I will be answering your question.

Air ride can get expensive to repair. They have kits to replace the rear air ride with normal springs which is a fraction of the cost. Goto www.strutmasters.com the kit costs $159 to eliminate the air ride. They even show you how to keep the air suspension light from staying on.

I hope my assistance helped you and resolved your concern, if you need further assistance please ask.

How to change the rear shocks?

If it has an air ride system, you have to replace the whole kit and kaboodle which costs more than the value of the car. take it to a muffler shop and get a price, they will tell you what type of system it is. there are shock and spring, strut and springs, and air ride systems. you need to find out what type you have first. then you can look up parts prices at car parts stores websites.

My air shocks are down and i don;t know what fuse to look for

the fuse is it the right front relay/fuse box, 60 amps I think. Most likely the shocks leak, then the pump runs too much to keep them up, then the pump burns up and blows the fuse. There are companies that make a shock for the rear to delete the air ride, the air ride can cost a lot to get running again. shocks and compressor.

Instructions for replacing shocks & struts

Ok first off if the vehicle is equipped with air ride you need to turn the air ride off or you will blow out the rear bags when the rear is off the ground.

For the front Remove the wheel. Take off the upper shock nut. Now remover the two lower retaining nuts. Compress the shock and pull it out. Install in reverse order. Before installing the new shock push the piston completely down and allow it to return. Do this 2 to 3 times.

For the rear remove the wheel support the rear end with jack stands at the jack points. Now use your jack (not a scissor jack) and place it under the rear diff to support the rear diff. If you have another set of jack stands use them and support the rear axle as it sits.

Remove the lower shock bolt. Now remove the two upper shock bolts and the shock will come right out.

Right rear air ride shock leaking bad want to know if i can raplace with regular shocks

Yes you can replace with regular shocks. You will want to remove the fuse so the pump no longer runs and you will be OK.
Good luck.
