I am told the timing chains are loose. The engine makes almost pinging type noise when accellerating at low speeds or uphill. How is this fixed and at what cost? What if problem is left unresolved?

the engine is pinking thats all ,use a higher grade fuel ,it should run on 95 octane but try it on 98 octane and this will cure it .timing chains loose ?? i think this mechanic needs to go back to school

When I step on the gas there is a clicking noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. I don't have 4W drive. The clicking noise stops as long as I do not accellerate. If I am driving for a while you can't...

in this case i would suspect a rear exhaust box or middle box,and the main cause is non kia part ,but its not a problem keep driving and enjoy unless you want to replace with a kia system.adrian,,,,,,,,,,,

2006 cobalt making weird noise when i accelerate. dont know whats causing this.

it just may be too low of octane in your fuel. does the car require 89 or 93 octain gas? if it requires 93 octain gas and you are pumping 87 octain fuel in it to save money, you may pay for the savings later on. the pinging sound you hear when accellerating is the ignition of the fuel at the improper timing because of the lower octain. this will eventually damage the engine. since you say you hear this when you accellerate tells me that this may be the issue. hopefully this is what it is because it will be easy for you to resolve. hope this helps.

1997 expedition engine pinging on accelleration

There are alot of things that could cause pinging but the most economical and easiest thing to try first is to clean the MAF sensor.Remove the MAF and clean the sensor bulbs with a good electrical cleaner and light shop air or just let it totally air dry then hook it back up and do several wide open throttle burst to reset the baro readings.

84 Z31 Turbo - Rough idle and poor slow accelleration

I would suggest a few things ... first and the most important... check that you have the wires in the proper order on the distributer. next have the timing checked.

04 Endeavor rattling noise

I had the same problem! I crawled underneath the car and discovered that a heat shield on the exhaust header pipe was corroded and rattling against the exhaust pipe. (Before the muffler)
I removed the portion and clamps and solved the problem. Give it a try.

Unusual ping noise

I have heard the same thing in my '07 Altima 2.5 S. I asked a mechanic @ the local dealer, and he said he doesn't know what it is and couldn't get the car to make the noise when he drove it.
