Question about 1989 Pontiac Bonneville

1 Answer

Rear Brakes sticking on my 1989 Pontiac Bonneville. When I come to a complete stop, it feels like the rear brakes lock up. When I start to drive the it feels like driving w/ the parking break on, and then there is a sudden "pop" noise/feeling to release and the car drives fine. It doesn't always do it, but it is fairly frequent when stopping at stop signs. I was hoping to get some advice on what the problem could be so that I have an idea of what I am talking about when I take it to the mechanic. Thanks!

The system uses a drum brake system on the rear. What happens, is where the shoe sits against the backing plate, it tends to wear and leave a mild to severe grove which can cause the shoes to stick until it is pulled back by the springs and returned to it's normal operating position. If you want to save yourself some money, I can walk you throuhg the repiar and what to look for. I can also send diagrams if you feel confident enough in your mechanical ability. Let me know. These are pretty easy. Put the money in your pocket!!

Why are only two of my brakes working on my 98 bonneville pontiac?

This is a litlle strange as the master cylinder has the brakes usually set up with the fronts together and the rears together. you can see if the caliper on the front is siezed and the master cylinder frozen on the rear wheel. Does the car have ABS and if so have the lights come on

Where r the bleeders on rear brakes for 1994 pontiac bonneville

If they are disc brakes, the bleeder valve will be on the brake caliper. If they are drum brakes, look on the back side of the brake backing plate. The bleed valve will be on the brake wheel cylinder. The valves probably have a little protective rubber boot on them.

Try this if rear drum brakes.Go in reverse about 8 feet and hit the brakes. This will self adjust the rear brakes and possibly fix the issue.Your rear brakes may have become locked.
