Question about 1998 Volvo S70

1 Answer

STARTS and runs well but quits and wont start again until it sits awhile.Acts like vapor lock, checked fuel and spark, compression and timing, all good.Replaced fuel filter, mass air sensor and cut holes in the cat to relieve possible back pressure. At first it would quit after idling about 5-10 minutes but now runs 20 minutes before quitting.

I had the same problem but when I changed the Mass Air Flow it was solved. I am suprised that you changed the MAF and you are still getting problems. Please get an OBD check. The problem must be having something to do with electronics and the ODB will definetly be able to read it.

2000 expedition will not start.

Three fundamental things can happen: a bad fuel mix, lack of compression or lack of spark. Also check your starter or alternator.

Car runs for while then just shutters and quits. After it sits 5 minutes, it starts again and gets me home. Replaced fuel pump last night and it did it again today. Help!!!

Sounds like it might be vapor locking. Or you may need injectors checked. We had to change fuel pump on ours and it did the same way.

1990 Aerostar runs and after a short time sputters and shuts off. After sitting awhile starts and does same thing again.Fuel in tank, converter changed, fuel from filter ok.What else could it be?

You would need to treat it like a no start issue when it stops running.
Check for spark at the plugs and fuel pressure at the injectors.
Could be the EEC relay or other electrical component.

As with any no start issue, you will have to figure out if you are dealing with a spark or fuel problem to proceed.
Either problem could be a faulty relay.
If it is a no spark problem, check to see if you are getting voltage to the coil.

Vapor locks

It could be a vapor lock but not likely. Since the introduction of fuel injection vapor lock has been eliminated.
You need to figure out if you are loosing fuel pressure or spark when it will not start back up. Could be a fuel pump relay or ignition module among other things. Even a problem with the vent for the gas tank.

1993 ford taurus

sounds like it could be a coil issue after its been sitting for awhile it starts again correct? when its running the coil will warm up and if there is a small crack in it anywhere it will seperate and loose its contact therefore interupting the spark for the engine and it will die. or it could be a bad fuel pump or even cheeper yet check the fuel filter.

Truck will start and run until it gets hot. turn it off then try to restart engine just cranks but will not start.let it sit for awhile then it starts right up?

Possible that the fault seems related with the fuel pump . So check the fuel pump pressure, check the fuel delivery and calibrate the settings. Also the fault must be double checked for the ignition - spark intensity and fuel delivery only after the engine is warmed up and swap and change parts to confirm before you invest.
check the valve settings, clearance and compression. confirm the timing of the igntion.
