Key won't come out of ignition on 1999 vw jetta

IGNITION KEY WILL NOT RELEASE

It can be faulty ignition lock cylinder. I suggest to wiggle the steering wheel a bit and see if the key gets released out. If that is not helping then first turn steering wheel to right and try removing the key, or next turn steering wheel to left and see if you can remove the key.

----------

Spray wd-40 in the ignition key hole and let it remain there for few minutes, after that once again try to remove the key and see if that helps.

---------

But if that is not helping then ignition lock cylinder has to be removed out and key has to be manually removed.

We are testing a 1995 VW Jetta, automatic 4 cyl engine. We had no trouble with it last night. Made several stops and it started up just fine. This morning, the key won't turn in the ignition. Key fits in...

If you have a ton of keys on the key chain that house the car key remove them. Then try starting the car. If this doesn't work then the release button either off the brake pedal or the shifter is stuck. Have it towed to a shop this envolves surgery.

2005 VW Jetta ignition/key problem

I just had this problem as well... thank god I had a handy AAA guy to my rescue, who used a flat head screwdriver in the ignition to get it to turn a bit, which caused the white lock I could see (that holds the key in while driving) to release... and then I could insert the key... Though I notice this is now becoming a reoccuring issue... so I think the ignition needs replacing...

Ignation Switch on 2005.5 Jetta TDI

Unlikely to cause damage that is not noticable.  If it was dragged with the wheels not turning, ( tow truck drivers usually know better)  locked by the tranny in Park, unless it is more than a couple of car lengths, should be no problem,   Qualified tow operators know what they are doing (cosmetic damage aside).   If you have ANY doubt, have the repair shop sign a complete statement that you have (already) written about the towing incident, just in case you need it later ... put it in the glovebox with the towing receipt, you will probably never need it.
When you drive it you will know if the tranny is OK.  No worries.
