Question about 1999 Buick Century

1 Answer

1999 buick century, drivers door power window. this window has a mind of it's own. it goes down when you don't want it to, then won't go back up.after waiting a few minutes, the window might go up all the way but most often only goes up a little bit then stops. after a few seconds you will hear a "click click " and the window will go up another inch or so. then it will suddenly go all the way to the bottom again and the whole process stars all over. the window usually goes all the down as soon as the key is turned on and is a bugger to get back up, if it stays up without going back down again. what is wrong with this other than itis poccessed?

Check the wires in the drivers door loom probably has shorted out inside the flex tube. most likely overlooked problem everyone says it`s the motor or regulator, when the most overlooked part is the wires

Driver's side window is off the track and is lodged inside the door. How do I take off the door panel and put the window back on its track?

The window regulator is broken

Windows do not go off track

Just like your back doesn't go out

You remove a couple screws around the door handle
You may have to pry up the switch panel to get to some
of them
There are plastic fasteners around the outside of the door
panel that get pryed loose

You won't like doing that job, as the professsionals
don't want to do it either

How do you change the power window fuses in a 1999 buick century?

in the fuse panel on passenger side of dash there is only a breaker 30amp rating sq. metalic color, this is not a fuse.
i suggest checking the wires in the drivers door loom as these fray and short out. check the wires before investing into parts you may not need.

remove the inner door pannel the screws securing it will be in the handel and hiden clips around the edge prise them away with a flat bladed screwdriver, once removed you will see the window glass that has come off its runners, undo the winding mech from its fixings and reposition the glass in its runners, you can lock the glass in the up position with a piece of thin wood or simillar if you cannot fix why it came off its runners,

2003 Buick Century - window problem

I've had a similar problem with my 2003 Buick Century. In my case, the driver's side front window one day went up and would not come down. I knew that the switch was malfunctioning by sticking in the up position since the window continued up despite the fact that Iet off the switch when the window was half way up and it continued going up. I had to pull over and pull the master switch assembly from the door panel and unplug it to prevent the window motor from being damaged by the constant power feeding it after the window was up. Basically, it would have burned the motor out. I cleaned the switch and it now works fine most of the time. I still need to replace the assembly. Not sure this is the reason in your case. I would check the back window and see if it goes down with the switch on the back door panel. If it does, then you are having problem with the master switch assembly on your front door panel. Moisture from rain from the window being down during rain or dirt may have corroded the switches' contacts.
