Question about Toyota Avalon

How do I remove the starter on a 1996 Toyota Avalon XLS. I am not a mechanic so please excuse my lack of knowing the proper name of parts... I have located the starter on the right hand side half way up from the tranny (I think). Does the device that is located right above the starter need to be removed first? The device I am talking about is the part that has a wire that attaches to the gas pedal. There is a plastic cover over top of it.. I removed it and I see 3 bolts. Please advise. Regards, T.G

Hi,

It's not very difficult to replace, both mounting bolts can be reached from the top.

Standing in front of the engine the starter is located near the radiator towards the right, locate the positive cable from the battery and follow it down it will lead to the starter.

Note - In simple words, remove negative battery cable, remove starter bolts and remove wires attached to it. Reverse the procedure to reinstall.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Disconnect the positive side of the battery, diconnect the connections on the starter then there should be three bolts holding the starter in once it is out replace with the new one tighten up mounting bolts connect cables back up to the starter and then re-hook the battery cable and your done.

Your Denso starter with new contacts/plunger will be MUCH MUCH better than anything you get for 90 bucks.

I listen about this same problem, its possible that you need a solenoid rebuild kit, DON'T BUY A NEW STARTER (besides their $200+), plunger and contacts are made of soft copper and wear in time takes about and hr to change them out, and that includes removing the starter.

Hope helps.

Reset factory alarm on a toyota avalon xls 1996

If the alarm system has a battery remove it otherwise removing the car battery for a while may reset it. In emergency contact your local toyota dealers mechanics department and they may be able to help you at no cost.
If you put a general enquiry on google you might get lucky, do not be too specific. i.e. toyota 1994 alarm reset procedure

Removing sliding hatch in the center console.

You can remove the dash fairly easily. There are a few screws (check by the peddles and open the doors and look there for screws). The rest of the dash just literally pops off. Once that is off you should be able to get to the ashtray/inside the dash to locate said item.

My 1996 toyota avalon xls needs a brake light changed and i dont know how

Open the trunk and pull back the carpet behind the lights. If i remember correctly there are two bolts on each side that you need to remove. Once they are off, use a little bit of force and pull the entire plastic light casing (from the outside of the car) to the left (if you are on the left side of the car) or to the right (if you are replacing the right side lights).

Heater Blower Motor

Remove the glovebox door, and the under dash cover/trim panel.

Look behind where the glove box was, you will see the heater box

At the bottom of this box, there is a round plate with a wiring connector and 3 screws holding this plate to the heater box.

This plate is the bottom of the heater fan assembly; remove the connector, and the 3 screws. The fan motor will drop staright down. Real easy to do.
