Question about 1988 Ford F 150

Have a 1988 Ford F-150 4X4 5.8 Windsor with 173000 miles that I am having problems with. Problem #1 - The truck has a really high idle when started it does not go down unless after it has been drving for a while and has been restarted it will sometimes go to a normal idle. When it does go to a normal idle after about 10 minutes of driving the check engine light comes on, but while at a fast idle the light does not come on. Problem #2 - About a month ago the truck started to die after it has been running for about 10 minutes. It will restart and die a few times then be just fine and I can drive all day so long it does not sit for to long. After reading some posts here I have changed the Map Sensor and the TFI module on the distributor but I am now lost. Please help

Check for vacume leaks. Could be the (tps) throttle control sensor.

I had the same problem with My 1990 F150 300 6cylinder 4x4.....I cahnged all the same things you did, finally I sprayed a can of Gumout through the throttle body and it worked and ran great. Now I add fuel injector cleaner to the gas and a regular clean with the gumout and the problem has'nt come back. Good Luck to you and hope it works!

got to be ignition module ,check for feed to it and if you have a feed then check the earths and if ok just change it ,these thing can just stop when you turn engine off ,never seen one go whilst being driven .

Belt sand the wall of a deepwell 7/32 socket til it fits in the holes of the module, you dont need a special driver. next look at www.howardsupply.com and it discusses this relocation solution. What Other Engines Can you Put In a 1988 landcruiser, mines tost


* Ford 5.0 windsor
* Ford 351 Windsor
* Chev 283, 304, 350
* Chev or Oldsmobile V8 diesel.
* Duramax V8 diesel.
Take your pick... Just about any engine between 275 and 400 cubic inches will be a good replacement.
