Question about Buick Park Avenue

1 Answer

My right turn signal quit then it worked and the left one quit, they both worked, and now neither work. The hazards work and I am sure it's not a bulb given how the quit. My question is whether there is a turn signal flasher on this car that I should try to replace before I go directly to replacing the switch. Or would it be some other problem?

hi the hazards work though - does this mean it is the switch

  • hollytsmith Sep 01, 2010

Right - I don't mean to sound dense. But my turn signals don't work and my hazards do. If my hazards work doesn't that mean the hazard relay (flasher relay) is good and not bad? In other words if the hazard relay was bad wouldn't the hazards fail to work? I just want to see if replacing the relay will work before I try replacing the switch (which costs over $300) but I don't want to bother if the relay is good.

ok - i am with you now. It appears that the hazard switch is all connected with the turn signal switch. Is there a way to replace/repair the hazard switch on this assembly without replacing whole thing?

I don't know what year or kind of Buick this is, but most will have a flasher in the fuse box under the dash, drivers side.

Now that I know the year, and kind of car, the turn signal flasher is part of the Hazard switch, O'Reilly auto parts has started to carrie some of these type of flasher's, if then don't have it, it will be a dealer item, cost about $30.00.

the hazards work though - does this mean it is the switch? the owner's manual shows the hazards relay not the turn signal which is why I originaly asked this question

My turn signals sometimes will quit working then I have to hit the hazard lights button leave it on and then turn my turn signals on then they work what causes this to happen

When the turn signals quit working pull up , down , front to back an back to front on the turn signal switch handle . Do they work when doing this ? Pontiac had bad switch . The power for the turn signals goes through the flasher / hazard module . Could be the switch or the module.
The HAZARD LPS fuse in the left hand instrument panel (LH IP) junction block supplies battery positive voltage to the flasher module, which is part of the hazard switch assembly. The TURN LPS fuse in the LH IP junction block supplies ignition positive voltage to the flasher module. The turn signal lamps may only be activated with the ignition switch in the ON position. When the turn signal switch is placed in either the left or right position, current flow is from the flasher module's output to the turn signal switch assembly. The flasher module then sends an on-off voltage signal to either the left or right turn signals and their instrument panel cluster (IPC) indicator. When the hazard switch is pressed, all the turn signal lamps will flash including both IPC turn signal indicators.

2008 envoy Denali right turn signal and right hazard quit. replaced relay worked for 20 minutes of driving then right turn and right hazard quit again??? LEFT SIDE IS FINE

Sounds like you have a wiring issue ! Maybe when you installed the turn / hazard relay you moved the wiring harness in such away that made it work. Grab the wiring harness an do the wiggle test an see if it works . Mite have lose connection where the relay plugs in, close the terminals a little bit. I don't know what you know about electrical systems on automobiles or I'd tell you to do a voltage drop test to find the problem . Need volt ohm meter an a wiring diagram to do this test. On my 2004 impala, the front right turn signal doesn't work, (only works with hazard lights). And the back right signal is fast. The signal "clicking" sound is non stop but on the other hand...

If the turn signal filament of the right front park/turn lamp is known to be OK and the hazard switch is in the normal position, the hazard switch or the turn signal/multi-function switch could be defective

After i hit someone from the back my left turn signals stopped working but the right side does work. Also the hazard signals on the left side do not work but the right does work. what should i do?

The wiring for your left turn/hazard might be damaged. The turn and hazard signals use the same bulbs and wiring, but get their signal from different switches.

Right turn signal does not work, bulb don't light, but the four way flashers do...... Thanks

Howdy, No Big Deal, Follow this, Common Power To Left and Right Signal , orange wire to flasher relay for left black wire for right, there are two relays inside flasher module 1 the left and right signal share the other is for the hazards. The is a common ground for the signal lights and hazard so if one side works good ground if the hazard works good ground...maybe power wire from 320 dollar turn signal unit maybe 160 on ebay....hope this helps keep smiling.....Doug in Clermont, Florida

You changed the hazard flasher or the turn signal flasher? It has two, one for the hazard and one for the turn signals
