Question about 2003 Mini Cooper
If you have an S model then you look under the carpet in the rear cargo area (Trunk?, Boot?)
For the standard Mini the battery box is located near the firewall toward the left side of the car (the Drivers left) You will see the battery wires coming out of the box. Carefully squeeze the plastic clips on either side of the box and pull it up. Some rubber baffling material will come up with the box... that's OK.
Mini's have very special size battery so do make sure you get the right size that will accommodate the hold-down straps.

The only way to check the trans fluid is to drain the fluid right out of the trans pan. There should be 5 liters. The only way to get the fluid in is by pumping the fluid back in by means of the fill plug on the lower front of the transmission. I believe it is a 4 or a 6mm allen to remove the plug. Whatever you use to pump the fluid back in needs to seal where the fill plug is because fluid will pour right back out. I would change the fluid at least every 50k.

Keep in mind there are TWO seperate headlight bulbs for each side. One above the other. The first one you see is the highbeam. Look above it for the other rubber boot, its square. That houses the low beam bulb.

Try this web site for detailed instructions on removing door panels. http://www.z50ak1.com/mini/default.htm
In short... remove four Torx screws (One is under the little round reflector on the door., remove the trim around the speakers, carefully pry panel off to avoid breaking the plastic retainer clips.
