Question about 2001 Kia Sportage

1 Answer

My son has a Kia Sportage 2001. The door ajar or door alarm beeps contantly showing an open door, when all doors are closed. It started intermittantly now whenever the key is in the ignition, the beeping is constant. I would go crazy listening to that while I drive. He said that he removed all the fuses one at a time and it didn't stop but I know he somehow missed one. It has to have a fuse that can be pulled. I am trying to get a diagram so I can find which fuse to pull. Can you help me?

2001 kia sportage dash lights and door ajar alarm work when brake is depressed

Not all that good at electrics, but having said that many faults are the result of a bad earth connection, maybe where the door switch goes into the door or body may be rusted. Have a look at this page. http://www.onallcylinders.com/2012/01/16/how-to-diagnose-electrical-ground-issues

How do i get to the door ajar alarm in my 2002 kia sportage? Want to yank the alarm out.. Is it under the radio? Want to get an idea before i take the dash off again

there could be a bad or not totally depressed door switch/es when all doors are closed, assuming the alarm system module (not sure of the name, some manufacturers call it body control module-'BCM') is good. you may try the following:
1. if there is, tighten each lock nut (or mounting nut) of the door switches, to bring out each door switch so that they will be fully depressed when the doors are closed.
2. to find out which switch/es is not being fully depressed when door is closed: while (& all doors closed) door ajar alarm is on, open one door & manually depress the door switch (try to depress several times - might be sticking). if alarm turns off you found the switch, otherwise continue to the next door. but before proceeding to the next door, tape down that first door switch (you may have more than one?) once you found the switch that is not being fully depressed when door is closed, tape down that switch (to keep the alarm turned off). go back to each taped down switch. remove tape & close door, if the alarm turned off when the door was closed (switch is fully depressed=good), then go to next.
3. you can skip 2, just install spacer to doors. spacer can be a thin piece of plastic (or something weatherproof cardboard) to make the door switches to fully be depressed when doors are closed., not too thick that may prevent door from properly latching). tape them first, then use good adhesive if they work.
other possible causes are bad door switch, broken or detached wire, or bad BCM)
(note: the door switch is a push button which looks like a small protruding nail? & mounted at the door opening, which will be depressed by the door upon closing).

Fob still won't work after new battery and nothing wrong with the contact inside, do not hae original code for the Kia sportage 1998 so what is the next best thing ,to do?

When replacing the key fob battery there is no reprogramming required! If the key fob was working prior to the battery replacement then it would point to the contacts not being correct! Remove key fob battery and start again!

My 98 kia sportage wont start

It sounds like the key sensor in the drivers door is malfunctioning, the drivers door is the only door that can enable/disable the alarm, if you try to unlock any of the others it will trigger the alarm.

Sometimes with my Kia I have to (without opening the door), cycle lock and unlock several times before the alarm is disarmed.

Have you tried this is succession, with all the doors locked:-

put the key in the drivers door, turn to lock and then to unlock, the alarm should disarm.

Also, if any of the door locks are jammed, the alarm will still activate when you try to unlock the drivers door.

If that fails and the alarm still activates, then it's a problem with the key sensor in the door.
