Question about 1999 Oldsmobile Bravada

1 Answer

1999 olds bravada climate control problem. Whether I set A/C on auto or manual, temp coming from vents goes from cold to hot to cold to hot and continues to do so. I can hear door in dash moving as temp changes. Any suggestions on a quick fix?

There may be a vacuum leak,in the control head,or the supply to it or even to one of the vacimn motors that controls door opening! The vaumn reservoir may be leaking and or the check valve! Does it cool ok at idle or at low speeds and partial throttle opening?

Thanks for responding! The A/C cools well at all engine speeds with the exception of going cold to hot to cold to hot . I haven't torn the dash apart yet but I think the door is controlled electronically, not vacuum. If it is electronic, would you know what part would be bad? I'm the worlds worst at replacing parts until I finally replace the right one on problems like this one! Any more thoughts on this? Thank you for your help. I'll be tearing into it today if the rain will let up! Thanks again....Kevin

It would have to be the door actuator that controls the air flow to direct air in the mode for the heater core,in heat mode only, and not in a/c mode. Also you should not have water flow through the heater core in a/c mode! There may be a cable that controls the heater blend door as well, to check. If this is an automatic temperature control system, you may need some professional advice, but there are some things you can check first! Have you had the a/c pressures checked ? And is the system full of refrigerant? Also capillary tube or expansion valve function? Has the a/c system ben empty and re charged recently? Best wishes let me know what you find!

It sounds like the system is fried. Based on the description, it is just pulling in the outside air and not doing anything to heat or cool the flow. Unfortunately, this is a job for your preferred mechanic.

I have a jaguar x type my a/c blows hot on one side cold on the other. The it blows heat on both sides then back to hot one side and cold on the other

1st you do realize that the zones on this auto are adjustable from side to side not just front to rear??? , 2nd this auto has an electronic temp control that auto selects whether or not it blows hot or cold on that sides seating area biased on the temp settings of the person in that seat (body temp) , I guess its possible that the dash control module for this could be defective , but its been my own experience that if no one is sitting in that seat it gets a little "confused" and seems to cycle between cold and hot , one can only feel this if you direct all the vents towards the drivers side , simple fix is not to cross direct the vents over to opp. sides , as it will maintain (if working properly) a comfortable setting on drivers side (what ever set temp is )

Passenger side blows hot air when front control set to Air

you cant adjust it ,this requires the dealers computer to re set it,or a phyiscal control has packed up like a vacumn pipe has split where it pushes onto the valve that controls the flap in the heater unit.

1999 Olds Bravada - High Heat is always on.

I have narrowed the problem to a non-functioning climate control acctuator (a mechanical vent door opening/closing unit that mixes warm and cold air) Unfortunately it is located high in the dash and requires entire removal of dash panel. Shop repair manual states a repair time of 5.2 hours... GM parts $260 actuator $75 door panel......Online parts $60 to $175
