The Check engine light has NOTHING to do with Changing the oil. If it is indeed the Check Engine light, then you will need it scanned and a proper diagnosis of the problem.

2001 chrysler town & country oil light is on

If you are taking the car to the garage or a mechanic, mark the oil filter before leaving home to make sure the filter is changed. After the oil has been changed when you return home you can check the filter to see if it was changed because the oil will only be changed. Since some mechanics know an owner of a vehicle will not check. Also, AutoZone have a very good quality oil for the chrysler town and country. Good Luck

Check the oil pressure with a mechanical test gauge and it will likely be ok, if so replace the oil pressure sending unit. Do not use any oil thickener in this engine it can damage the bearings.

I had changed the oil 2000 miles ago cause the check oil light came on. The light still remained on after the oil change. I told the mechanic and he did something to the system and the light went off. Now...

You need to check the oil pressure. You need a analogue oil pressure guage to fit in the hole where the sensor is on the engine. It may need an adapter to make one fit. This will give you a correct oil pressure reading. Did you change the oil filter when you changed the oil?

The "check engine" light is for emissions related items, not normal maintence items. If it is on then there is a problem that needs to be addressed, but no not changing the oil will not make the check engine light turn on.

At this point I would strongly suggest that you have your mechanic hook a mechanical oil pressure guage to the engine and make absolutlely sure that the pressure is up to manufacturers standards. It may simply be a failing oil pressure sending unit, but, until you know, it could turn out a lot more expensive! Thank you, Dana

My check engine light is on in my car. We change the oil ourselves. Is there some sort of code or something we need to do to let the engine system know that the oil has been changed?

No. The check engine light has nothing to do with changing the oil. The computer has detected a faulty sensor, or some other emission related problem and turned the light on. You will have to have the computer "scanned" to retrieve the code and determine what the problem is.

I would have the front brakes checked and from what you are telling me you may have a warped rotor I do not know how many miles are on the car some cars have a reset after the oil change has been done to turn off the check engine light but if it keeps coming on take it to autozone and they will put it on a tester for free and then you will know what needs to be done
