I have a 2001 F150 and am trying to find out where the factory installed plug in is for the brake controller wiring. I have the brake controller and the instructions say to read the truck owners manual however there is nothing about where the plug in is located. Thank you, Tony P

Hi. There is a grey plug with 6 wires right behind your OBDII diagnostic port on the lower dash board above your accelerator pedal.

The color of the wires on the plug are blue, green, red, white and brown. The wires are as follows:
Blue....electric trailer brake feed
Green....brake pedal switch
Red...12v postitive...always hot
White....ground
Brown....interior vehicle illumination (not used)

The factory wire harness that you will need to attach your brake controller will plug right into this plug. The factory wires are colored the same as above.

After-market and brake conroller wires are colored as follows:
Blue....electric trailer brake feed
Red.....brake pedal switch
White....ground
Black....12v positive

There is a fuse box under the hood that has the fuses that control the wire harness. There are at least 2 boxes, mine were on the drivers side wheel well near the rear of the engine compartment.

Have a 1998 f-150 factory tow plug 4 wire plug the brake and turnsignals work on truck but not on plug

follow harness back froom 4 pole connector, it goes into a square grey plug, if your laying on back looking up, it would be on the right frame rail about 12-16 inches in from rear bumper, make sure it is plugged in..if it is you need to trace wires for damage (could be pinched or broken)

hope this helps

Try chrutchfield.It is easy to spend a couple of bucks for a adapter.Then you just wire the radio an plug it in to the factory harness.You can also try any local box store that installs radios,they will have the adapter harness.Well hope this helps.

I just purchased a brake controller and plugged it in to the factory wiring harness. There is no power to controller, what should I look for?

Chances are the factory did not install a fuse in the location that powers the controller. Look in your manuall for the correct location for the fuse and then check your vehicle. If you can not find the location post a comment on here and i will check my book tomorrow and post it for you!

Need to hook uo a flat four trailer conector ,dont know ford

The rear lights :

Brown is the parking lamps ( either side )

Driver's side Stop / Turn : Light green w/ White stripe wire
Pass Side Stop / Turn : White w/ Light blue stripe wire

Another option ( for use with the factory trailer circuits ) is to add / replace the factory tow adapter. eTrailer has them, if you are interested. This is the type adapter as Ford p/n: YL3Z-13A576-G. You would need to install the relay and the fuses for the trailer circuits if you do this.

Install a 7 wire trail brake controler for a 2006 mercury mountaineer v8

If your vehicle is anything like my F150 there is an empty unused electric connector just under the dash about where your knee would go for braking.
The wires run to the trailer plug on the back bumper. I spent the extra money for a controller with the correct plug and just snapped it on and tightened 1 ground wire at the dash and I was done.
If you just have wires and no plug with your controller you will have to wire it into that same plug.

2001 Dodge Dakota Trailer Brake Wiring

Call dealer & ask them to run your vin# to see if it came with towing package. They shouldn't mind. If not, you'll have to wire it in yourself.

Hey Bryan

I've got them for Six and Four wire plugs

Six wire plugs:

Horse, stock or utility trailers:
White = Ground - GD
Yellow = Left turn/Brake -LT
Green = Right turn Brake -RT
Brown = Tail and clearance lights - TM
Red or Black (not both) = Battery, aux power - A
Blue = Electric Brakes - S

Recreational Vehicle: (color, use, plug mark)
White = Ground - GD
Yellow = Not used -
Brown = Right turn Brake - RT
Green = Tail and clearance lights -TM
Black = Battery, aux power - A
Red = Left turn/Brake - LT
Blue = Electric Brakes - S

Four wire plugs:
White = Ground
Yellow = Left turn/Brake
Green = Right turn Brake
Brown = Tail and clearance lights

Ground should be 10ga.
Others 14 ga

Best regards
Mike
