It won't start after sitting for 2 days was running fine before parking truck. Would crank but won't start. Notice wait to start would not come on at all and overdrive switch on column shifter was lit. Also wts light would be dim and would not stay on for 5-6 sec. Seems like its not getting fuel, no fuel smell at exhaust. Is it electrical or mechanical. Also

    hi

Thanks for the answers they all sound like excellent answers. What would you suggest that I do first, what would you do first. Should I have it scan for codes, seems like its not putting out anything from the port when hooking up scanner. Like my port doesn't have any readout at all. Could it be the computer or............something else, is there a way to check if port is okay? What steps should I follow ................please help as much as you can. I don't know how this work once I accept your answers, I can't ask you anything anymore

    Hi again

What if the engine cranks but doesn't start, would that be a possibility also. With the engine cranking I don't see or smell like any fuel is burning. How can you check to see if the port where put the scanner is working. Why is wait to start light flikering and being dim and not going off after 5-6 sec

Wait to start" light flashing.Get your fuel system checked.I agree there is fuel but is that fuel reaching the engine from fuel pump.If the fuel is getting blocked in the pump or if the fuel filter is clogged making the fuel slow or stop.To confirm this get the fuel get the fuel pressure checked. check your glow plug relay (located in front of and to the passengers side). If this all checked ok then check the battery to starter connections.Either the battery is weak or the starter is got short.check for 12 volts on batter and battery to starter connections. Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

Hi. There could be wide range of problems in your truck that needs to be checked. Here are some of the most common:
- Problems with fuel delivery system (e.g bad fuel pump, fuel pump relay, clogged fuel screen, etc.)
- Problem with engine electronics (e.g crank sensor, cam sensor, air flow sensor, power relay, engine computer, etc.)
- Ignition system problems, especially on older vehicles with the distributor (e.g bad ignition coil, commutator, rotor, distributor cap, etc.)
- Defective ignition switch
- Problems with vehicle security system
- Internal engine problems (e.g broken timing belt or gear, low compression, etc.)

Hi. I forgot to include to check the starter also. I think that is the best way to diagnosed the problem. Check the starter first. I provided you a link on how to check your starter. Please click here.

Car won't stay running after sits overnight and runs good after you do get it started

In the morning, turn key to on position for 5 seconds. Do not crank. Then turn off for 5 seconds. Repeat this about 5 times. Then try to start. If engine starts right up, the fuel pump check valve is bad. Meaning all fuel in fuel line is returning to the tank when car sits overnight. The only fix is to replace fuel pump. If that doesn't work, replace coolant temp. sensor for the computer. About a 12.00 part.

Any idea why it takes a few turns of the key to start my truck? There is 59000 miles on it and the last 2 mornings the truck did not want to turn over. it eventually did, and would start fine in the work...

You have to be specific about the engine turning over

That is done by the starter circuit

Some people call that cranking

Some people also say it won't crank, when they mean
it does crank, but won't start

Not turn over the engine -----

Old & Weak Battery
Dirty Battery Cables
Worn out Starter Solenoid -- you can buy & replace
without getting the entire starter
A bad Starter

When it rains , the van just won't start. It cranks , but will not turn over. If it sits on level ground for awhile it seems to crank fine . My mechanic sprayed water over the engine & can't get it to...

Try turning the key on (but don't crank the engine) and wait about 2 minutes, then try and start the van. Anytime mine sits more than overnight, this is the only way it will start, otherwise runs fine.

Hope this helps.

Hello All - I'm hoping someone here can give me a few ideas. My 92 toyota celica st has sit for about 5 days - for the last 3 days the temp outside has been in the single digits. Went to go start today and...

You can try this.
Turn on the key and listen for the fuel pump to prime.
It will sound like a gentle hum. when it stops, turn the key off. wait a few seconds and do it again. Do this three or four times, but don't try to start it. after the third or fourth time you turn it off, try to start it. It may not be priming the fuel injectors fast enough.

Car shuts off while driving

if car shuts off while driving it could be a bad crank sensor. a bad crank sensor will shut car off while driving, then it will not start for about 10 minutes, when it starts it runs fine until it goofs up again. the popping could be the sensor for it controls timing along with the cam sensor.
