Check pressure with an external pressure gauge. Proceed from the results of that test.

96 Chevy blazer how do I get out of safe mode ran low on oil now runs an drives but won't let car go fast past 2000rpms

The computing system on your vehicle has no safe mode for running low on oil . The only thing that will happen is the check gauges light will come on.
The oil pressure gauge is an analog device that is located in the IPC. The oil pressure gauge is operated directly by the oil pressure sensor circuit. As the engine oil pressure changes, the resistance of the sensor and the current flow in the oil pressure gauge changes. The current flow in the oil pressure gauge causes the needle to move in order to appropriately display the engine oil pressure. A sensor resistance of 1ohms will display as 0 kPa (0 PSI) and a resistance of 88 ohms will display as 80 kPa (80 PSI ). The IPC also monitors the oil pressure sensor circuit and interprets the current flow in this circuit in order to determine when the engine oil pressure is too low. If the oil pressure is too low, the check gauges tell tale will turn on. The oil pressure sender is located on the left side of the 2.2L. The 4.3L engine, oil pressure sender is located at the top left side, near the distributor/high voltage switch.
Try disconnecting the battery cables an hold them together for ten minutes , reset ECM !

My check gauges light is on, oil hands goes over to zero, moves up, light goes off, when it drops back to zero, gauge light comes back on.

Well the warning light is supposed to come on if any of the gauges display a dangerous condition, such as no oil pressure.
You may have a faulty sending unit for the gauge, or a wiring problem, or the engine may actually be loosing oil pressure when the gauge drops.
You could replace the sending unit as a test, or have someone check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge.

I have a 96 Chevy Blazer 4x4, when driving last night, I noticed the oil pressure gauge drop to zero. After a few moments, it rose back up to where it is normally (around 70, if I remember correctly). As...

Hello,

Many things can be causing this issue, the worst is an engine problem, but before thinking the worst lets point out some of the not so nasty things.

The sensor could be bad, or the gauge in your Blazer could be going, if you have those vac tube digital gauges be known they do have issues, if you have the normal "arm sweep" gauge they are temperamental as well.

Another often overlooked problem is a clogged or very dirty oil filter causing sudden spikes and or drops.

Some electrical gremlin can be messing with the readout, sudden loss of a ground or feedback over the wires could cause problems.

The sensor for your Blazer is under $50 at Advance Auto Part No. 12553175 , it would be worth it to replace and then see if you still have the problem.

Below is typical oil sensor replacement, tho it's not your Blazer this should give you an idea on what to do.

Hope this helps.

If the valve lifters are quiet you most likely have oil pressure even with gauge showing "0".Sounds like the oil pressure switch going bad.I would try that first.

Oil pressure gauge goes up when car started, but then down to 0

u Have a problem with the oil sending unit. The sensor is located beack right side of the engine block. Take out the switch and make sure u have good oil PSI. Should be 6 psi at idle and around 50 at 4000 RPM. If the presure is ok replace the switch they are very cheap about 20 bucks. Please rate.

'oil pressure gauge

Replace the useless oil pressure sending unit with one from a early year such as 1986 .connect only the wire to the oil light.if you want a pressure gauge install an after market one..The stupid factory sending units can not rear pressure under 40lbs.at less than 40psi the light is on and the gauge reads 0 good luck carl
