Hi! Do you have the correct firing order of the plugs? You may want to check the cam sensor and the timing of the distributor. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

Replace your spark plugs, spark plug wires, dist cap and rotor. Check for switching power to the coil, constantly on and off, as the engine turns over. If you don't see any power then replace the coil

If going to the wrong coil a back fire or a hard knock would occur

Check for loose grounds or loose connections in the electrical system that was removed by you

Pickup coil?

sounds like you need to clean out the carb. or you have the wrong gap on the spark plugs. having to jump start it i would start with the spark plugs gap. gap open to much will take a bit of starting. and when engine is at running temp. it use less fuel and the spark plug gap gets bigger. until there is no spark or not a good one to keep engine running.

2005 hyundai tucson 2.0L engine rebuild with new bearings, timing belt and chain. Also new pisitons rings. when trying to start engine it would not catch. spark is fine on all wires and engine is turning...

If the timing chain is off one tooth it will be hard to start. Check the coil and make sure you getting a good spark. Also make sure yor battery is good and your alternator is putting out at least 13.6 volts or more.

My honda died on me while I was driving.I got it towed to my home, after droppihg the car in my driveway I got in the car and started as if there is nothing wrong with it.what could cause this.could it be a...

The most common reason for this would be a bad distributor or coil, the distributor contains modules and other components, depending on the type of the distributor the coil may also be part of it, i would star by running the engine until it dies and then check it for spark, if theres no spark then i would start with a coil and then if that doesnt help i would replace the dist, note; make sure to replace the distributor cap and rotor also, with coil first, then replace the dist if the car still dies out. good day.

1989 dodge d150. truck will run fine for about 15 minutes then dies. I changed the fuel filter and it still dies. both injectors seem to be pumping fuel. so any ideas.

If you are sure right after the engine dies you have fuel I would think it was the coil going bad see if yiou have spark right after it dies. If you have spark squirt gas into the throuttle body and see if it starts

I have a 1978 dodge 440 in a motorhome and the engine turns over but as soon as I let off the starter it dies. It seems like its not getting power to the engine?

It could be many things so start with the easiest /cheaper first.Check your plugs , they will tell allot...white= too lean .black and/or wet =too rich .. clean and gap If your coil is old and not sparking hot enough it will sputter and stall . If your ground to the ignition is loose or corroded , same result. If the motor has noit been run for a long time ; replace spoark plug wires , coil , pioints, rotor , cap ( just replace the distributor with electronic etc.) . Put in fresh fuel (gas goes bad) and filter. You might run some carb cleaner or rebuild the carb , your start /idle jets might be plugged.Check all vacume conections , cracked or loose hose equals too lean to run when cold. If all else fails loosen the distributor and swivel small increments back and forth until it lights. Oh yeah , if your alternator is not putting out the motor will kinda start then die beause the battery cannot keep up.
Good luck

94 Chevy 1500 truck, seems to be getting fuel, pump sounds like working when checked. Replaced Mapping sensor, had distributor check, but truck continues to run fine for awhile, then just die for no reason...

These sometimes have problems with the magnet on the distributor shaft loosing magnetism. This causes the pickup coil not to be able to produce a strong enough signal for the ignition module and the engine dies because of no spark.

1993 Ford Explorer It dies and will not start back up for 15 - 30 min. fuel pump cycles, while turning engine over. But will not start.

You need to determine if it is a fuel problem or a spark problem. When it quits, pull out the easiest spark to get to and hold it against a good ground with a pair of insulated pliers and have someone turn over the engine while you watch for spark. If you have no spark you may need coil,pick-up coil inside the distributor,of an ignition module.Pick-up coil seems to go the most often you may want to start there. If you had spark then try a new fuel filter or you may have a fuel line that is collapsing and needs replacement.

My mazda lantis just died in driving motor turns over i checked cambelt its ok it seems i am getting no spark need some advice

test is there is a spark on the spark plug. remove the cable attached to the spark plug on cylinder 1. remove the spark plug and reconnect the cable. ground the spark plug and see to it that the center tip does not touch the metal part of the engine. use insulated pliers. let someone crank the engine. observe the spark plug. it must show a spark when the engine is started. if there is, no problem with the electrical circuit. otherwise, the coil is defective.

What is causing my 1986 jeep grand wagoneer engine to stall while driving? I cannot restart it but there is power. It will turn over but not start and there is gas in it. The jeep just went "poof" and died...

ok, its and old jeep, cranks but will not start.

carb fueled right? crank it wide open throttle to clean the flood
and block open the choke, if CARB has auto choke, if manual choke make sure its open. (push in knob... called choke)
fuses first. test them.
first check for spark in all cylinders.
if you have spark on all , then its flooded.
if no spark on one try a new spark plug and wire.
if all spark is dead , do the tuneup. now. all spark parts.
if spark is dead, check it at the coil, ? good there? or not.
that is a start.
if the carb is bad, we cant cover rebuilding it here.

stalls while driving has over 50 causes.
but bad spark or flooding tops list. (assumes engine is ok)
