It is a hydraulic system, much like your brakes. use regular brake fluid unless the owner's manual says otherwise. if the fluid keeps disappearing, you are most likely looking to replace the little master cylinder or the slave. keep an eye on ebay for replacement parts.

when you get the new reservoir , fill it and fill it with methylated spirits
use that to flush out the clutch hydraulic system
when you have clean fluid at the clutch slave cylinder bleed screw . the refill with brake fluid and bleed through until you have brake fluid

I have a 2003 Saturn ion 2, I pressed the clutch in and I won't reengage. It acts as if the trans shelled out but I know it hasnt , could it be the slave cylinder?

This type of church uses fluid from the brake master cylinder. First crack to see that the brake master cylinder had plenty of DOT3 brake fluid in it. If so the system has either developed a leak at the slave end which is a ballooning type of hydraulic throw out bearing assembly, or the brake fluid got so low the catch hydraulic system has gotten air in it and needs to be bled. Bleeding this type of system is a pain and needs to be performed by a mechanic who has been trained on this system. Most likely the church slave cylinder is leaking. Look under the vehicle and see if there is a lot of wetness between the transmission and engine.

What type of clutch fluid to use in a 1998 toyota corolla

Practically applied for more than 4 decades I have found that the clutch fluid is not more than a brake fluid. This Brake fluid is broken as
DOT(s) and ranges 2 to 5. Properties are of higher numbers say like DOT 3 and 4 have more ability to resist heat and have higher boiling temperature marks than DOT 2. Cars like manufactured around 1998 should use Dextron II D or 3. If you are to top up the level (you can check the minium and maxium level marks at the outside of the fluid plastic reservoir) the best is to top up to maximum level with as same as mother fluid. If you can't get or don't know what brand or what type of clutch fluid is already exits and not to get even a small reactions between fluids, flush out the existing one and replaced with the other.
Make sure you have enough amount of fluid for your dry clutch hydraulic system. One 0.5 bottle is good enough for family and light trucks. Make sure you bleed out all the air trapped inside the dydraulic system. Good luck.

Woke up found my jaguar 2002 X type (petrol) clutch pedal on floor. No signs of leakage of fluid. After pumping clutch up and down several times, clutch returns. A few mins after no clutch.

sounds like the concentric clutch slave cylinder is faulty/leaking, is there any sign of fluid loss from the resovoir, it uses the brake resovoir for its fluid supply, the leaked fluid is probably in the flywheel houslng, big job to change. front subframe has to be removed, if its a 2.5 or 3.0ltr transfer box also.

Fiat stilo abarth 2.4 semi-automatic gearbox what type of clutch fluid is used

The clutch in the Fiat stilo abarth selespeed uses the same fluid as the braking system. Just find the container in the engine bay with the braking fluid. And top up with ''DOT 4 Brake & Clutch Fluid'' Note it's not the oild for the Gearbox or selespeed. You should never touch the container that holds the fluid for the Selespeed.

WHERE TO ADD FLUID TO CLUTCH MASTER CYCLENDER

it appears from my info, that the clutch master cylinder is connected by a tube to the brake master cylinder resevoir, and it gets it's fluid supply there. Fluid would therefore be added AT THE BRAKE RESEVOIR. fIND THE CLUTCH MASTER ON THE FIRE WALL AND VERIFY THIS THOUGH, AS i CAN'T SAY THAT i REMEMBER SEEING THIS IN PERSON. gOOD LUCK, AND GET BACK TO ME WITH ANY MORE QUESTIONS.(Sorry, don't type well, and accidently hit caps lock)

When i press my clutch on my 1998 vw golf it is not soft....

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

If the clutch is fluid type then you may need to fill it up for if you have fluid loss the clutch may be hard or too soft to press. If the clutch is cable type then the clutch cable itself may be worn out that's why it's hard. This will surely need replacement to resolve the problem.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

My 1997 Toyota Camry Manual 5 speed is slipping a little bit and i need to know how much fluid the transmission takes and what kind. I also want to know what it means when my rpms go up but your speed only...

Sounds like you need to replace the clutch if the rpm's increase alot and the speed increases a small amount the clutch is starting to have excess slippage. If you go to Autozone web site and search a bit you should be able to find the needed type of transmission fluid and quanity needed.
