Hi. I was having a similar problem ,so I am gonna paste my fix. Maby this will help ,maby not .lol!

John R Thompson II Oct 23, 2012

The problem was fixed by purging all the air from the system , as I stated before I had replaced the water pump. While the raditor lines were loose I ran the Hose water thrue the raditor to clean any debree out. After replacing the water pump ,and topping the coolant off the coolant light remained on. A short branch pressed against the gas petal ,and seat keeps the truck slightly above idle if in my case your working alone. Let the motor idle slighty high for 15 ( Leave the Cap Off orf the resovoir )minutes all the while topping the resovoir off with water or coolant . In my case I could see air bubbles reguarly ******* up in the resovoir. After all this the light still didnt go off ,so I shut it down. The next morning it didnt come on , and has been doing good ever since.

why my low coolant light comes on at time. - fb_southernhobb.jpg

Always be ready for a hot coolant blow out !! That is hot water/coolant ,and can burn you especially with hidden problems such as a bad head gasket that allows the hot exhaust gasses to enter the cooling system.

Sometimes the sensor gets contaminated, clean it real clean woth brake cleaner and reinstall it. the sensor is in the right side of the radiator near the right headlight area.

    SOURCE: coolant light comes on

    Ouch. Been down that road.

Sounds to me like a head gasket problem.

    Pull your oil dipstick.

    Is your oil watery?

Does your dipstick smell like coolant?

Does your coolant have an oily film on it?

You can have a dye leak test done to confirm it.

Should you be able just to have the head gaskets changed and not the engine, again..insist on thenewest, brand name, top of the line gaskets
    available.

    Best of luck.

SOURCE: car low coolant light on,

Doesn't sound right to me. Do a compression check on all the cylinders and make sure to check for water in any cylinder. Sounds like you have a cracked head or blown head gasket letting a cylinder over pressure the water system.

not the pump but air in the system or a broken wire to the coolant level sensor
that sensor at the top of the radiator tank has to be completely immersed in coolant or the circuit is broken and the light comes on
same effect id the wire to that sensor is broken in the insulation

Check engin light comes on and vehical shutters when trying to excellerate. checked water and it was out, put fresh atifreeze 50/50 mix and it is still doing same thing. this vehical has a new water pump...

If you replace the water pump and thermostat and nothing is leaking, and still the coolant is low, then you vehicle is burning coolant, that give you a misfire and a flashing check engine light. so look like you need a head gasket job.

Sorry if I don't put things in a nice way.
If the thermostat is bad either the temperature is low, or is hot but no misfire (chatters)

Light came on instrument panel. looks like a water pump light.

bet it's the low coolant light. There's a senser on the side of the raditor that tells if the coolant is low and it'll come on if there's straight water in the cooling system too it'll come on if the coolant is low it'll come on if it fails and all of these are as common as the other. Sometimes you can disconnect and reconnect the senser and it'll reset ifthe raditor is full of coolant but it can go bad too just as often, Sometimes you can just unplug it and it'll not work but you;ll not know when your low if you do. New sensers are dealer idem.

Water pump replacement-putting it back in and setting the timing.

    1. Step 1 Park your car overnight and put a large white piece of paper underneith your car. In the morning check the paper. If the paper is wet with liquid, you could have a water pump leak.
    2. Step 2 If the paper has green (in most cases) fluid on it, there is a good chance your vehicle is leaking coolant (sometimes refered to as "water"). In many cases, when you are leaking coolant it could be coming from the water pump.
    3. Step 3 Turn the engine off and open the hood.
    4. Step 4 Locate the water pump pulley. The pulley is the round part that the belt is attached to. To find it, look for the belts. You will see more than one pulley. Your car will have an alternator with a pulley and perhaps an air conditionermag-glass_10x10.gif, power steering and smog pump pulleys. If you are unsure, ask your mechanic to point out the water pump pulley.
    5. Step 5 Grab opposite ends of the round pulley and check for "play" (looseness): Try to rock it back and forth. There should be no give. If there is, the bearings are going and it's time to replace the water pump. By the time you can feel play in the water pump pulley, you may also be able to hear the bad bearing when the engine is running - there may be a low-pitched grinding noise coming from the water pump pulley.
    6. Step 6 Visually check the water pump (it's located behind the pulley) for signs of a coolant leak. If the water pump gasket is leaking, it must be replaced. This is a good time to get a new water pump, too, unless it was just recently replaced

If the water pump goes out , would the radiator warning light come on?

If it has a coolant level sensor in the radiator yes it will, due to low on coolant due to water leaking from water pump, coolant will leak from water pump if bad, unless it just has bad water pump bearing's, then some time's it will not leak and just make a noise.
