Either it is low oil pressure or the sending unit itself. I'm guessing it is the sending unit that is giving false readings.

If the oil level is not low, better have the oil pressure checked with a mechanical gauge by a shop. No or very low oil pressure can be fatal for engines. Possible your oil pump is worn. If the pump is good, oil pressure can be affected or lost if the crankshaft bearings are worn. Has the oil and filter been changed regularly?

Low oil pressure at low rpms

Depending on tone and depth of "clicking" it could be anything from lifters to connecting rods or piston pins....

cheapest to expensive:

Replace oil filter

if that doesn't do it (which it doesn't sound like it),

Replace engine...

Because clicking/ticking/clunking noises while having a "low oil pressure" issue (most of the time) means the engine is destroying itself.

Your motor oil level is low.
The oil light indicates low oil pressure - at higher RPMs the oil sending unit (oil pump) can create
a little oil pressure, but at lower RPMs it fails to keep up.
If the oil level is good, then the oil sending unit itself is going bad.

Oil pressure gage drops down to zero when i go to stop

Might be a bad Oil pressure sensor or a weak oil pump and when the car idles the pump even if it spins but the power is low but after you push the Gas then the RPMS goes up and the pump spins fast the pressure gets higher. Good luck

Have you checked the engine dipstick to ensure that the oil level is correct? A very low oil level will cause the light to come on. Top up oil if necessary. If oil level is OK, then it is possible that the warning light pressure switch which is screwed into the engine oil pressure system is faulty and setting off light and needs replacing. There could even be oil leaking out of the switch. The switch is usually located near the oil filter and will have a wire connected to it.
If the oil constantly needs topping up you either have a bad leak or the piston rings are worn and not operating correctly. If the leak is bad, then there will be oil puddles under the engine after it has been stopped for a while. If it is a ring problem, then there will be grey oil smoke out of the exhaust while driving.
Worst case is that it could also mean badly worn engine bearings. It is unlikely to be the oil pump as these hardly ever fail.

If the engine has not been serviced regularly with oil and filter changes, the oil can become very black, dirty and sludgy and cause restrictions in the lubrication system such as sludge blocking the gauze on the inlet to the oil pump and build up in the oil galleries. Poor oil flow from the pump will cause low oil pressure and continuing to run vehicle in this state will drastically shorten engine life.
If this is the case, then run some flushing oil product (ie. Wynns or Nulon or other reputable brand) in the engine, following the instructions on the container, and then drain and refill oil and change oil filter. You may have to repeat this process in a couple of months if the oil is particularly dirty.

When fully warmed up, my Olds Aurora V8 gives me an in-dash and audible low oil pressure warning at low rpms (traffic signals, stop signs, idle) and immediately goes off when I resume higher rpms, usually...

Here's a few things to check out. First, you need to know if the oil pressure is correct or not. You can figure this out by removing the sensor and replacing it with a manual oil pressure gauge for testing purposes. If you find that the manual gauge is showing higher pressures, you can breathe easy and start looking at your instrument cluster for the problem. If, however, your oil pressure is reading the same, you need to figure out why your oil pressure is so low. One thing to check out, is to change out your filter, especially if it's a brand other than GM's AC Delco. Some filters are TOO restrictive, and can cause low oil pressure issues. Secondly, the viscosity of oil that you use can make a difference as well. As engines get older, and acquire higher mileages, they wear down a little. This makes larger gaps for oil to pass through, thus allowing your oil pressure to lower. For higher mileage vehicles, it's recommended to go with a slightly thicker oil, which will combat this problem. If these don't bring your pressure up enough, you may have to consider replacing your oil pump. This is more involved, as you must take the pan off the engine, and that can be a pain sometimes. You may opt for a higher volume pump, which would compensate for your increased tolerances. Hope this helped you out!

Oil perssure not steady on 02 ford ranger

Did you check oil pressure with a oil pressure gauge from the oil gallerys in the block. Determine if the oil pressure is adequate. Most likely its probably a bad gauge but if you used a oil pressure gauge and there readings inidictive of low source oil pressure then most likely you have a pump failure, or there is inadequate oil volume in your engine.
