Automatic. Hard shifting. what is best case/worst case scenario?

That can not be answered. You need the vehicle and run some diagnostic tests. I don't honestly know why any shop, would quote a price, until they had a vehicle a couple hours, regardless of issues, and had an idea of what any issue ,may be. There is no worst case or price, ever in the automotive trade. Can't guess at the unknown, just to make the customer feel good, only to be very upset later.

worst case scenario is that you have to replace each and every sensor, over $1000 dollars, but typically its $200 or less to fix. Best place to go is the dealer service shop, next best is your nearest repair shop.

Help! My 1990 300zx rpms jump and transmission (a/t) appears to shift gears irradically while cruising at about 45mph and up. The RPMs will jump from right at 2.5k to 4k, but is usually a smooth shift. It...

check the transmission fluid. if it is dark and smells burnt with debris in the fluid. you need a ****** repair. but before you jump to conclusions. change fluid and filter in ****** first, and see if this helps. I know on the nissans there is quit a few transmission complaints. especially automatics. but do fluid and filter first. then go from there ! good-day ! and may god bless.

Transmission is shifting hard in first and 2nd

This part of the transmission gear work the hardest because it the first move to an accelerated gear change. I hope the problem is not too far gone. Check the level of the transmission fluid, not just that, check the color n smell. If it smells burnt u have burnt clutches. If however its more brownish than the original color n no burnt smell. Just drain n replace oil then see if it improves. If it doesn't improve, run a scan on it, it may also be the shift solenoids acting up. Worst case scenario is burnt clutches. I hope it doesn't get to that.

To be honest, when the electrical wires and parts get wet, there can be all kinds of problems. The best advice I can give you is have it professionally scoped.

I have a saturn sl2 with a 5 speed transmission. i was driving and heard a ping and now 2nd 4th and reverse are gone but i still have 1st 3rd and 5th. i have no idea where to start fixing the problem

If you have inspected the shift linkage and found no missing or loose parts, then unfortunately an internal shift mode fork, syncro assembly, shift rail or possibly a snap ring has been damaged. This is not an easy fix on any vehicle and will require transmission removal to diagnose. Before the trans is removed, inspect the shift linkage while someone moves the gear selector to all gears. This would be the best case scenario, internal damage, of course, would be the worst.

Transmission wont engage

if it is a manual it is most likely your clutch. if it is an automatic it is most likely your torque converter. but it could also be your transfer case or a blown transmission (these are worst case scenarios)
