The stock car will run on regular, unless it has a turbocharger, but I don't believe that is an option on the Taurus. Ask them if the engine has been modified for higher compression.

Not usually, unless you bought a special model.....what does the owners manual say.

That is not true. You may burn regular fuel, or mid-grade fuel as well. Although, running premium fuel may increase your overall fuel mileage, it isn't necessary to make the vehicle run.

I have owned one and never used anything other than regular gas in it but i have heard of some that spark knock on regular,if the engine is running good on regular then stay with it ,if not then fix the problem with the motor or buy premium to delay the repair. The most common problem for needing premium is a partially plugged catalytic converter, other than that the ecu will handle what ever fuel you put in it.

I've been told that I need to take my 1998 Ford Taurus to the Ford dealership to have the computer reprogrammed or completely replaced. How do I go about doing that and how much does it usually cost?

your question is a good one because part of what you have been told is right, and the other part is not. First of all yes it is true that you most likely will need to take your car to the dealership to have your computer reprogrammed if that is what your desire. However, the dealership will charge you dearly for this procedure. Your best and cheapest option would be to go to your local automotive salvage yard and simply get a good used computer. In order to insure that you get the right one you will need to provide them with your vehicles V.I.N. number. I hope this helps you out.

My ford taurus is acting funny it gives a little speed and all the sudden it putters and dies out. somebody told me the fuel filter and i changed that and its acting the same another told me fuel pump.

fuel pressure should be 40 psi.

But, if you have a MAF sensor on your air intake after the air filter box, clean the exposed wires inside, with spray carb cleaner or MAF sensor cleaner. It will fix a lean condition.

report back.

Poor gas mileage on 2008 Ford taurus

Are you using the correct grade of fuel.
Manufacturers claim that a car will do 28 to the gallon.
This is done under ideal conditions at a constant speed on a rolling road.
Wind, hills, overtaking and tire pressures will decrease fuel mileage.
Your car is ok. Don`t expect much more unless you want to drive at 56mph
good luck

2005 Ford Tarus Check fuel cap light

I don't think this will help but I'm willing to share my experience. My gas cap light stays on all the time. I was told to buy a new gas cap. (from different stores I bought 5). Everytime I would replace the cap the light would go away for a day or 2 but returned and is still on. The Dealership said it has been happening but nothing to worry about. I have had no troubles because of it, just annoying.
