Question about 2000 Cadillac DeVille

3 Answers

2000 Cad Deville. shut vehicle off, noise in dash sounded like plastic window reg. stripping, "tick, tick, tick, tick". Start engine later and A/C will not blow out dash vents. A/C & blower working, but no flow from dash vent. Ideas or "simple fixes" welcomed, just had to replace both rear window regulators.

The sound I heard was not "heat" . Upon restart the system automatically resets to a/c and max cool if weather is in upper 90s as it is now. Your suggestion to adjust to proper area is of no use to me.

  • merleateer Sep 01, 2010

The ticking noise was as if a plastic gear were breaking the teeth off like a "window regulator" failure, as I wrote earlier and not a "heat sync noise". The Blower comes on and will increase and decrease. the "mode button" which changes flow from defrost, to dash, to feet will not allow air to flow from dash vents.

Can you share w/me the process of dis-assembly of a/c controls to allow access and if any specialized tools are needed.

Thanks for warning, will proceed with "shop diagnostic" as suggested.

In cadillacs there is an HVAC control module that can be scanned for diagnostic trouble codes. that would be the first place to start.

it sounds like there is a problem with one of the blend door actuators. the "click click" sounds was likely one of the doors binding or an actuator malfunction, causing your automatic climate control to malfunction. unfortunately, there is typically no quick fix for this, there is likely going to need to be some disassembly of the dash board and components. as i said, having the vehicle scanned first should help to point you in the right direction. good luck!

without physically see this problem in action, it would be amiss for me to tell you to start taking things apart. if there is a blend door issue, there are deep in the dash assembly, and often the majority of the dash needs to be removed. i warn you not to attempt this unless you have some good experience with this type of work, you will literally be removing close to 100 screws, nuts, and bolts.

disassembling the actual controls will not show you the issue. i still recommend the first place to start should be having the car scanned. this will save you alot of time and money in the end.

Friend,
The tick, tick sound that you hear may be the metal cooling down. So, there nothing to worry about. And the AC not blowing through the dash vents may be because it is set to blow elsewhere, ie, the wind screen, or the legs and wherever else it can and not through the vents. It can be set to blow through the vents (on to you) by setting the knob on the dash to the right place. A mechanical adjustment.

You will have to take an oil pressure reading and compare to specifications. It could be that the pick up screen is plugged. Do not drive the car as damage to engine will occur.

I am about to buy a 1997 Cadillac deville concours with 82k miles on it. The car seems to be in good condition. What should bear in mind before buying it. What should I check?? Is 4800$ a reasonable price...

$4800 is what Kelley Blue Book is suggesting private party in good condition.
First thing give it a good external look for any signs of accidents, such as dents or slightly different paint colors as there can be hidden damage in the suspension, frame or body.
Next start the vehicle and listen to how it runs. It should sound smooth with no rattling or ticking or other weird noises.
Also check to see if the check engine light is on or any other warning lights.
With the vehicle running, shift through all the gears twice and check transmission fluid with vehicle in neutral (parking brake on). Shut the vehicle off and check the oil.
Next give it a test drive. Try to go a few miles on the street, through parking lots (speed bumps & dips) and on the freeway. Listen for any abnormal sounds when shifting, turning, braking, and going over bumps.
When finished with the test drive take a look at the tail pipe before shutting it off there should be no smoke coming out.
These steps and common sense will give you a pretty good indication of the condition of the vehicle.

Does the car have a normal oil level on the dipstick? The behavior is consistent with a broken timing belt except for the part about the temperature gauge going to the top which would indicate overheating or a faulty gauge.

Loud ticking noise, dash, passenger side very annoying

That ticking noise you hear is an HVAC actuator that has failed. It is a small motor with a plastic gear and the gear has stripped causing it not to open/close as it should.

2000 LINCOLN/LS/3.9L V8 FI DOHCwont start ticking noise

Have the battery terminals checked - sound like a loose battery terminal. As u go over a bump it can cut out the engine then u dont have a good enough contact to run the starter. Get someone to try to crank as you wiggle the battery leads if it cuts the lights on the dash intermittently theres your prolem. Also check the ground wires to the motor.
Hope u get sorted

1995 Nissan Altima ticking noise

1. Will need a radiator; there is ruber seal between the plastic tank and the aluminum core, and it sounds as though the seal is bad. I've tried transmission sealers; sometimes they work for a while.

Ticking noise is probably lifters (cam is farther down in the engine). Outflow of air from oil cap is normal. JWS

Ticking noise

It is part of the waste gate just above the gas tank. It periodically checks for leaks and pressurizes and releases. Gives a ticking noise when it does this. Not a problem and GM is aware of this and said its normal on our cars.
