Question about 2005 Chrysler Pacifica

1 Answer

My 2005 Chrysler Pacifica will not shift out of park. The shifter feels "loose", and when I shift it into reverse, the reverse lights do not light up. I had a used transmission installed on it about 2 months ago, and the "feel" is totally different. I am not a mechanic, and would like to get a simple way to diagnose what the problem is. If it is related to the used transmission, it will be covered under the guarantee, but the shop that did the work is 63 miles away, so I would like to be sure before I have the car towed there.

The shift linkage is not adjusted properly and they may have forgotten to tighten the linkage after installing the transmission. Any mechanic could check this for you, or someone could possibly shift the transmission into gear at the transmission so that you could drive it back to the shop and let them fix it.

I have a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica. It is making a grinding noise, and won't drive, reverse or stay in park. It was shifting gears perfectly before everything stopped working. Any idea?

Check the CV axles first. They can pop out and cause your noise and won't keep the vehicle from moving in park. Replace the axle/s if they did.

Why it will not go into gear?

check to see if the brake lights are working. some cars have a lockout for the gear shifter that won`t allow you to shift out of park if they are not working. it is wired into the brake light switch so when the switch or fuse is not working then the car won`t shift out of park.

What does the (BTSI) solenoid control in 2005 chysler pacifica

Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) solenoid.
The shift interlock solenoid is located at the bottom of the steering column.

I am assuming your needing it replaced or getting a code readout telling you it is bad? To determine if this is your problem:
First thing, did you check the brake lights to see that they are working?
Did you check ALL of the fuses to make sure NONE of them are blown?
Lastly. Put the park brake on, turn the key so that it just unlocks the steering wheel, but does NOT turn on any lights. Will the shifter move out of park? If yes, then it isn't the solenoid. If no, then you are on the right track.

This problem also happened to me. However, I found the part online that replaces the second pink lever. The new part is made of metal so the part will never break again. I made the emergency fix with the dremel, ordered the part, and a week later the part came. I am making the permanent fix today. Follow the link above to order the new part. It costs around 49.00 including tax and shipping. It will take you appx 2 hours to remove the shifter, change the part, and reinstall.

My 2007 chrysler pacifica wont shift out of park.

SHIFTER LOCKED IN PLACE

  1. Remove the instrument panel cover below the steering column, then remove the steering column shrouds to gain access to the brake transmission shift interlock (BTSI) solenoid. The solenoid is part of the interlock cable assembly.
  2. Disconnect the wire connector from the rear of the BTSI solenoid.
  3. Insert the ignition key and turn it to the ON position.
  4. With the brakes applied, try moving the shifter out of the PARK position.
    • If the lever now moves freely in and out of PARK, perform the Circuit Test below.
    • If the shift lever still does not move from the PARK position, remove the BTSI solenoid from the shift lever assembly. If the shift lever now moves freely in and out of the park position, the BTSI solenoid is faulty and the interlock cable must be replaced. If the shift lever still does not move from the park position, the problem is in the shift lever assembly or the ignition interlock cassette

Can't shift it into gear.

all pacificas are auto and have a slap stick this might be due to have the spring that attacthes to the transmission it could be that the shifter might have to be replaced or adjusted or your transmission might be shot.
