Question about 1999 Chevrolet Astro

1 Answer

My 1987 Astro van rear door won't open. I can lock and unlock it with the key but the handle doesn't seem to be attached to anything. It just flops back and forth.

Thanks for the quick answer. Do you have any suggestion about how to get the door open without totally wrecking the door? Thanks

Thanks. I was able to dismantle the interior door panel and trip the latch. It was reversed as you said. The rod attachment in the handle was broken so I drilled through it, inserted a bolt, ran it through the rod and bolted it down. It works! And I was able to put the door back together without any appearance of damage. Thanks!

The rod on the inside that connects the handle to the release mechanism has come free. You will need to get the door open so you can remove the inside door panel so you can access this and reconnect it.

Unfortunately the only recommended source I can provide to getting that door open without basically tearing a hole in it would have to be the Haynes or Chilton's repair manual on the vehicle. I assume it is windowed and you may possibly be able to get to the release with a hanger from the inside without too much damage but again the recommended manuals would have the best information on doing this. I can tell you this, door latches appear to work by pulling the release but in actuality they are reversed and operate by the rod pushing down on the release lever. As you lift up the handle the rod hinges and pushes down. Good Luck with this repair.

93 chevy astro van rear door linkage not working

What has happened is that the link rod connector, a plastic piece, has broken, and the rod is indeed flopping around in there. These are always fun, as they never break after the door is already open; it is always the act of opening the door which breaks them. The parts are cheap, less than $5, but getting to them...not so great.
To further assist you, I need to know which rear-door configuration your van has. Please respond if you still have the vehicle and the problem.

Vw golf mk4 my rear passenger door willnot open with central locking key system. i can't even open it from the inside, pull the door handle and the lock pin rises but door won't open. i believ

This worked for me on 2008 Mk5 Golf, after the rear passenger door would not open fro outside or inside.

Hold the inside door latch open and keep it extended, then with the key fob open and close the door locks (still holding the inside latch open). Keep locking and unlocking the door, then it made a kluck and it released.

Rear hatch door in ford windstar-mechanism came apart

My back hatch would not open but it appears the lock was sticking and the return spring to the handle is broken. We used the key to unlock the back door and then door opened. Then husband sprayed WD 40 in all the lock holes. Now once we open the door we have to push the handle back down as return spring is still missing but the door opens :) . My van is a 2002 Ford Windstar.

My astro van back door lock (the one that locks the double door and the pull-down window won't lock it seems to be jammed what can i do to fix it? thanks

If you are speaking of the outside of the lock where the key goes into it. Then you can start by spraying some "white lithium" grease or some "wd40" into the locking mechanism. After a few minutes, this should free up the lock so that you can unlock and lock the doors.

The Hatch window on my 2002 Astro Van won't open?

To start with , stick the little red nozzle from WD-40 in the key slot as far as you can & spray real good in there. Can you hear lock "thump" when you hit remote for unlock, or open?

Power door locks wont work and dosent seem to get enough power to drivers side window

Buy a different van. I maintain a fleet of 10 Astros and the automatic door locks on all of them do not work. 5 of them have windows that don't work. The rear door handles on three of them have broken in half. The auto door latch in the 02 will not open.
