The electrical component of the switch is prone to failure. This often seems to cause the key to become stuck in the ignition. It's a fairly easy and inexpensive fix. Try this...

How to remove ignition without keys

if you have a metal bit for your drill that's small enough to drill a hole into the middle of the key:
drill a hole into the center of they key. stick in something into the hole (preferably a rod of metal) with superglue on it and gently try to turn the ignition after it's properly dried.

Ignition switch stuck

  • In a straight line down the steering column cover from the key, on the right hand side of the bottom, there is a little hole that may have a round plastic cover over it.
  • If cover is there, just pop it off with a small screw driver.
  • Take about a 6 inch thin screw driver and stick it up in the hole while turning the key to the off position. This is a manual release that GM built in, knowing that their electronic release would fail.
  • You may have to take several stabs at it, but dont push hard as it is a very light button.

Key stuck in ignition able to drive not able to take key out

There is a hole under the steering column you will have to stick a pen in it, and you will hear a "spring" sound and you can remove your keys. Once removed, check your shifter, and clean around it. Sometimes this is caused because your shifter is not completely in park. Other solution is to replace the ignition switch after you get them out. Unless you want to just stick a pen in the hole everytime. Thanks.
