1998 c1500 headlamp replacement procedure - 1998 Chevrolet C1500

wow no year car told,why? 1998 to now, is it USA? car?
yes sold in S.America too, 2011 and up.
the outside casing lens?
the service manual covers this only
no problem told at all just how to. ( so I guess the whole thing out and in)
why skip saying the problem first.? to the blind.
is the front of the light casing all ugly and yellow?
2001-2008 (separate model, North America)
so I guess 2003, ( using ESP and Karnac mind meld)

PULL steps

Headlamp Replacement (TrailBlazer) Removal Procedure

1. Open and support the hood.
2. Remove the grille. Refer to ' Grille Replacement (Chevrolet).
3. Use a flat-bladed tool in order to release the clips that retain the grille to the headlamp panel.
4. Remove the grille from the vehicle.
5. Pull up on the retaining tabs?(1) in order to remove the headlamp assembly from the headlamp panel.
6. Disconnect the headlamp leveling electrical connector from the motor/actuator if equipped.
7. Disconnect the headlamp electrical connector?(2) from the headlamp assembly.
8. Remove the side marker socket?(4) from the headlamp assembly.
9. Remove the park/turn socket?(3) from the headlamp assembly.
10. Remove the headlamp assembly from the headlamp panel.

Tip

Disconnect the electrical harness as the headlamp assembly is being removed from the vehicle.

Horn Replacement - Left Side

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the headlamp assembly.
2. In order to gain access to the horn assembly, pull the headlamp assembly to one side.
3. Remove the bolt (3) to the horn bracket through the headlamp cavity.
4. Disconnect the electrical connector.
5. Horn Replacement - Right Side

   1. Remove the splash shield from under the fender.
   2. Remove the bolt (3) to horn bracket from under the facia.
   3. Disconnect the electrical connector.

SECTION 417-01: Exterior Lighting 1999 Explorer/Mountaineer Workshop Manual REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION Procedure revision date: 07/27/1998 Lamp Assembly-Headlamp (Explorer) Removal

1. NOTE: Make sure that the headlamp switch and the ignition switch are in the OFF position.
   Remove the parking lamp assembly. Refer to Lamp Assembly-Parking (Explorer) or Lamp Assembly-Parking (Mountaineer).

   1. Compress the self-locking tabs.
   1. Remove the headlamp assembly.
   1. Disconnect the electrical connector.

Installation

1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
   • If necessary, adjust the headlamps. For additional information, refer to Headlamp Adjustment-Photometric Aiming or Headlamp Adjustment-Screen Method Aiming in this section.

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

1. Make sure the headlamp switch in the OFF position.
2. Remove the retaining ring screws (5) from the retaining ring (4).
3. Remove the retaining ring from the headlamp (3).
4. Remove the headlamp from the headlamp mounting bracket (2).
5. Disconnect the electrical connector (1) from the headlamp.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

1. Connect the electrical connector (1) to the headlamp (3).
2. Install the headlamp to the headlamp mounting bracket (2).
3. Install the retaining ring (4) to the headlamp.
4. Install the retaining ring screws (5) to the retaining ring.

First take out a 1/2 inch socket, 5/16 wrench and remove the battery. Hidden by the battery is a horn which is removed by removing the 1/2 inch screw. Now you have access to both the left and right low beam headlamps.

You need access to both because the other headlamp is about ready to burn out.

Next, take the largest screw driver in your box and use it to lift the tabs on the headlamp connector. Use a shop light or flashlight to see, but the tabs lift from the top. Gently wiggle the connector downward until it releases.

AFTER disconnecting the connector, the bulb assembly should turn counter clockwise a full 40 degrees and stop. After rotating the assembly, pull/wiggle the bulb assembly straight back from the light assembly.


Buy a pair of bulb assemblies and reverse process.
