Either a bad fuel pump or fuel pump relay. Take off the gass cap, have someone listen where the gas cap goes. When you turn the key to the on position you should hear the fuel pump run. If not, find the relay under the hood. Swap the relay with the one next to it (temporarily) Turn the key off then back on. If you hear the fuel pump running then replace the relay. If not the fuel pump is bad. Which is usually the problem.

where is the fuel pump located

  • Anonymous Feb 17, 2011

I know that you don't want to hear this.... But it is in the fuel tank. You have to drop the fuel tank and it is inside the top of the tank. There is a clip that you have to rotate to unlock the fuel pump and fuel gauge sending unit. It will all come out in one piece.

What would make a not start unless I pour gas into intake

Hi Clyde:
Since you mention "gas rail" I'm assuming fuel injected.
I'd check the fuel pressure in the rail. Should be around 40 PSI.
If pressure is OK then injectors not working. Time to check cps.
You know the spark side is OK since it will run.

Fuel in filter and start pouring gas in carb, but won't stay running

Make and Model, year of vehicle?
I'm assuming the vehicle won't run unless you pour gas into the intake. If the vehicle will start and run while manually feeding gas to the engine, you can rule out spark and timing issues. Usual suspects in fuel system are dead fuel pump (electrical or mechanical?) clogged delivery system ( fuel line, filter, injector or jet) or intake leak (bad gasket or seal, vacuum leak, stuck valve). 25310438-za4bqvjhdrn3arnyccyp5xaz-5-0.jpg

2000 kia sportage car won't run untill you pour gas in the intake then it will till the gas is used up

Sounds like your not getting fuel. Turn key on and listen by gas tank and see if you hear a buzz sound. if you don't you'll need to replace the fuel pump.

93 geo tracker will turn over but wont start unless you pour gas in intake then will continue to run until you kill it. will not start back unless you pour more gas in intake.

Sounds like something is letting the fuel pressure bleed off after the motor is turned off. Can you monitor the pressure? (Requires adapters and gauge.) Trouble shooting will be a little different between the 8 valve or 16 valve motors. (The fuel injecton systems are different.) You might want to go to a Suzuki Forum. (Your Tracker is a rebadged Suzuki.)

87 911 carrera will turn over but wont start.... has no spark from coil, but has 12 volts to coil with key on.

If the car is getting power from the battery(lights turn on; radio turns on) when you turn the key, then it is your starter or gas distributor. To test that, you need to pour a little gas right in the hole where the engine and intake meet. Pour a little gas in that hole. If it starts up, then it is your gas distributor that is the problem not giving gas to the engine. If it doesn't start up with gas in the engine, then it is your starter. Either will be $100-$200 fix at a shop.

Truck will turn over but not start

Try pouring some gas in the intake dont go nuts with gas just a few ounces if the vehicle starts and then shuts off you have a bad fuel pump. I have a 1996 Blazer and I replaced mine last year make sure if that is the problem that you shop around for a price because it could save you hundreds of dollars shop around. If it runs and keeps going it could be you fuel injectors are bad. Last winter i had to put gas into my intake when it got real cold. What happens is the fuel gels when it gets cold and it makes it harder for the injectors to take it in . I also replaced my fuel injectors now this winter it starts right up.
( If you dont no where the intake is locate your air filter and follow the intake vent where the vent hose connects to your engine. Unscrew the clamp pull off vent hose and then pour the fuel inside of engine fuel intake manifold. I will bet money your vehicle will start if it dont you have some type of electrical situation.

I was driving down the road and the truck just quit. it cranks very well, but no intentions of turning over. i checked the spark, good but even when i puur gas in the carb. nothing happens

this sounds like a bad fuelpump, try spraying starting fluid in throtle instead of pouring gas, when you pour gas it may not enter all cylinders it may just sit in intake galley. try the starting fluid.also have someone crank the engine while you beat on bottom of gas tank with a rubber hammer, this sometimes shakes fuelpump and make a contact to get pump going again.

Mazda MPV 1989 has good spark, good gas pressure but won't start. I disconnected one of the injectors and I tested for pulse but there's none. while driving, the van started feeling like loosing power. in...

YOUR BEST BET IS TO GO AHEAD AND REPLACE YOUR FUEL INJECTORS. BY POURING GAS IN TO YOUR INTAKE. YOU KNOW ITS GOT TO DO WITH YOUR FUEL SYSTEM. I TAKE IT YOUR CHECKING FURL PRESURE ON THE CHECK VALVE ON THE FUEL RAIL FOR THE INJECTORS. REPLCE THOSE AND YOU SHOULD BE GOOD. JAKE.B

Is it possible that the computer on my 92 geo tracker is what's keeping it from starting???? will the engine turn but no strat????

turn the key to acc mode and if the check engine light is on then the computer is working. check for spark. listen for the fuel pump to turn on its in the back passenger side if both those work and you didnt mess with distributor plugs rotor or cap then you may have to bypass it. or the fuel injector could be clogged. take off the metal air intake to get to the fuel injector and pour a little gas directaly in and see if it starts. if fuel pump spark and pouring gas into were the fuel injector is then it might be a bad fuel injector or it needs to be bypassed.

Im getting spark for the plugs and im getting fuel. i even put starter fluid in the intake and gas but it wont start it just turns over and nothing

A 1999 GMC Yukon has a fuel-injected engine. They are known for the fuel injector lines inside the intake plenum to break and flood the engine. If you are pouring starter fluid and gas in the intake you are only making it worse. replace the injector assembly with the "new improved" injector assembly and replace the plugs, then it will probably start.

This subject is covered by GM Technical Service Bulletin No.: 00-06-04-003B

See GM Parts List below. This replacement Injector assembly is now also available in the aftermarket.
