Question about 1985 Pontiac Bonneville

1 Answer

After my car has not been going for about 20 hours, it will not start until I pump the accelrator about 10 times (warm summer weather). The garage has already replaced my fuel line(s) and this did not improve the situation. I have a 1985 Pontiac Bonneville with about 83,000 kilometers on it (this is the true mileage, as the car has been in the family since new).

If this is a carb car check to see if the carb butterfly is closing when cold. You will have to remove the air cleaner to do this. Press the accelerator down to activate the choke. Also make sure the accerator pump on the carb is working. You may need to adjust the choke tension.Hope this helps.Good luck!

Ok, here you go,a 1988 F150 that i bought this summer ran great all summer and fall but when cold weather hit(35 or colder) the truck just turns over but won't start. When the weather warmes up it'll start...

have you scanned the computer for any codes? Even though it may not have a check engine light, it still may have codes that might put you on the right course. Fords of that era have issues with ignition modules (by the distributor). It is OBD1, so the codes are manufacturer specific, and the connector is either on the driver side or passenger side shock tower.

Windshield washer pump fpr a 2006 chevy impala is there a fuse that could be bad ?

Yes, you could check for a fuse burnt out, but generally if the windshield washer pump doesn't buzz or turn so you can hear it, it means that in this weather, it is frozen up or burnt out. Usually it's just frozen with summer formulatioin of windshield wiper fluid which freezes at 32 deg. F.

Try to warm up the car in a heated garage to see if the windshield wiper fluid becomes unfrozen.

And, try to flush out the old fluid when you get it the pump free of ice, and install -20 deg. F or better wiper fluid.

Good luck on this repair.

Cuts off in warm weather after about 10 miles

Don't rule out fuel pump. Had a 95 do the same, ran great when cool in morning then when it got hot in afternoon, it would quit. Wait 15-20 minutes & go again, sometimes got me home, other times a few more miles until it cooled down again. Luckily I had access to a fuel pressure gauge. Cool in morning had 49 psi, when it quit, 2 psi. Wait 20 minutes, 49 psi again. If you can drive it around until it starts to act up then run into a repair shop for fuel pressure test it will confirm it. If not, they may need it all day to monitor the fuel pressure & confirm it is pump. If your a gambler, change it & fuel filter. One thing I did get was trouble codes indicating a lean mixture, due to starving for fuel. Have you cycled your key to retrieve any codes yet?

1993 Buick LesabreTransmission takes 20-30 minutes to warm up

I think you need to have the transmission filter changed, and right away. If that doesn't solve the problem, then have it tested at the transmission shop. Rick

1991 Plymouth Acclaim stalls

One of the more common problems with the 2.5L & 2.2L engines that suffered the symptoms your describing, such as, starts & runs good, then at any given time would just quit, not start, but after sitting a while, or by the time the mechanic gets to it, it starts right up, or you sit on the side of the road for 20 min. or half hour then away it goes for a while longer, then quits again down the road. There is a pick-up plate under the distributor cap & rotor, with the wiring plug coming from it. 90% of the time, it's defective, and cuts out especially, but not limited to, more often when weather is hot.

99 S-10 will not start in windy damp weather.

I would change all of it. Spark plug wires will leak under the high voltage w/o any outward signs. Unlikly fuel pump . Not effected by damp weather. If after all that and it still doesn't work, change the coil.
