Question about 1999 Toyota Camry

1 Answer

When I try to start my 1999 toyota camry it makes a loud rapid clicking sounds. It's been doing that for a couple weeks. A couple times when it has done it my car wouldn't start and I needed to jump start it. But every other time it will make the rapid clicking sound and eventually turn over. What is causing this? My friend said it could be the ignition switch. The battery was just replaced. it is in good condition. There doesn't seem to be any damage on the cables either

Hi,
Did the issues just start or only after some kind of car service?

I read where you checked the coil(s) but that's still what it sounds like.

I'd get a used coil(s) from a Wrecking/Salvage yard and try those - usually can be returned, whereas the dealer won't take 'em back.

1990 toyota camry left turn signal rapid clicking

Rapid clicking is a sign of a bulb not working or burned out. If the bulb is new, check for proper voltage at the bulb socket. If you have the proper voltage, clean the contacts in the socket with a small screwdriver (make sure the car is off and no voltage is present) or whatever you have that will work. The contacts will oxidize over time causing a barrrier between the contact and the bulb.

Starting problem

Hello LostLynne.
The most common issue is a bad contact in the starter solenoid.
This solenoid is part of the starter assembly and makes the high amperage battery to starter connection
When you hear the click the solenoid is activating but not completing the battery to starter contact.
If this is an original starter or been on for a long time I would suggest changing the starter assembly.
Also in your under hood fuse/relay panel there is a smaller relay that activates the starter solenoid that should be checked before replacing the starter. Although less common for that to happen it does occasionally cause a problem. Easy to replace too.
If you have further questions please ask me.
