Definately not a DIYer job, the power seat needs to be removed and the seat mechanismn needs to be inspected for the failed part or parts, unfortunately any good quality parts for this are ordered from the dealer all else is from a junk yard, power seat motor is generally the culprit and if so must be ordered and then replaced, not a very nice job!!

SOURCE: Driver seat not moving back and forth

under the seat is a thin wire that goes from one side to the other it has most likely broke you need to find the secondary lock it was connected to and release it to move the seat but you must also release the main lock so i suggest replacing the wire . THIS IS FOR MANUEL SEATS
now as for power seats you will have to locate the power lead wire and make sure it is not broke if so you can replace the connecter with an aftermarket one and it may work again

no there is not perhaps a good mechanic could find a used seat (electric controlled ) but if vehicle is not prewired it will be costly .

Front drivers seat will not slide back and forth.

No, check for a blockage in the seat track. You have one power source for all seat functions. If it works one way but not the others it is either a bad switch, or bad motor, or a blockage.

My 2006 nissan altima driver power seat will not move up and down but will go back and forth what the problem?

The lift motor in the power seat is probably bad. Yes, there is more than one electric motor in power seats. Have it checked and replaced if necessary.

The power switch to move the drivers seat back and forth is broken. How can the seat be moved back? is there a manual way to move the seat if the electric motor has a short in it?

Remove the switch & test it with your VOM Meter

Then if it is no good ,get a new one at the dealers
parts counter or a used one at a salvage yard

Everyone needs to stop with the fuse maybes &

A short is not a constant thing, as the wires burn away
& then you have an open circuit.

You will only have a very few fuses ever blow ,in 50
years of driving. Replacing one won't do a thing

A short is of no concern at all ,unless you have 2 feet of
melted wiring harness in your vehicle.

I have a 1993 Mercury Topaz that I just bought, and the drivers side seat will not move forward, it will go in all other directions, but won't move forward...any suggestions?

There are 3 electric motors on the seat. One is forward and back, one is front up and down, and one is rear up and down. The switch changes the polarity back and forth to achieve the proper movement. I think the wire color for the forward and back motor is yellow with a white tracer and red with a white tracer. so if the switch gives the motor positive voltage to the yellow with a white tracer and grounds the red with a white tracer the seat moves forward. If the switch gives the red with a white tracer positive and the yellow with a white tracer ground the seat moves back. (or the other way around). So we can safely say it is in the switch.
Good luck and God Bless

Electric seats in 1999 Siverado move back & forth

the tracks for the seats are pressed out aluminum. they have motors that control the seat adjuster. it seems when worn they will not stay in place and need to be replaced. If anyone that is very overweigh this will create this problem sooner than expected
The seats are made to withstand 250 max. I have sold tracks by GM for 30 years and know personally what they can do in time from weight
(nothing personal)

We have a 1999 Toyota Avalon with a problem with the driver's electric seat mechanism. It will move in every position except it will not go back (reverse). Any ideas on how we can fix? Thanks.

This is a switch problem for sure. Try to toggle the switch back and forth very hard and mutiple times. If it moves the you are 100% in need of a switch. The switch is farley easy to replace. Dont buy from dealer. Have a junk yard pull one for you

Remove drivers seat

There are Bolts Underneath the Seat Inside of the Frame Rails. Remove these and the Seat Belt from the Seat if attached and Unplug the Wiring Harness Under the Seat if they are Power Seats. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!
