Question about Dodge Ram 1500

1 Answer

The AC on my 2003 Dodge Ram will not come on but the compressor is kicking on and off. I had to unplug the compressor, because I cannot control it from the inside.

This is most likely caused by low refrigerant if you know how to find the fill valve on the low side buy a can of R134a with a hose and Gage and hook it to the low side of the ac system it only goes on one side, it will be a blue colored cap. The refrigerant is about $10.00 bucks at any auto parts store. As you put the refrigerant in have the truck running then AC on High and fan on hing shake the can back and forth till it stops going off and on. watch that the gage does nor rise above 35 if it does it means you have another problem. Get back to me if you need more help. Thanks for using fix-ya

I have a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 that will blow cold and hot air for only a few minutes. After that is only ambient air temps. It is a 5.7 ltr, automatic with only one set of climate controls. The heater core...

you say it will blow cold and hot air for only a few minutes. You don't say but I assume you mean will blow cold a few min. when turned on AC max , blow hot only a few min. when turned to heater hot. Assuming thats the situation and you say AC charged and shows good on the low side -you should charge the AC to a full charge on the low side will cause problems with the AC air compressor kicking on and off. I suggest while the engine is running and turned to AC cold max watch the AC air compressor clutch to see if it does indeed kick on and off if so charge completely. As far as the heater make certain you coolant is all the way to the top and the best way to do this is when engine is completely cold remove radiator cap and fill completely and completely close cap then fill overflow container just to the cold level. That should fix your problem.

Ac compressor wont kick in. Full of freon, new ac compressor and new ac pressure switch

Probably just the a/c resistor which is a big black block thing just under the passenger dash. You dont need to remove the dash just crane your head underneath and you will see it. Mine went and i got another off Amazon for about $30. Apparently they tend to go every so often. Good luck!

you may want to check the fan for the AC condenser under the hood of the car. Your AC condenser should have a separate fan similar to that of the radiator. See if it turns on while the AC is on. If it does not, you may want to swap the relay of the two fans. If swapping the fan relay would start the AC fan then have the relay replaced. If it does not turn on then have the fan tested. Check the wires. If the fan is Ok you may have to check out the condenser if it needs cleaning.

you should be adding the 134a to the system the low pressure switch is doing its job by not allowing the compressor to kick on, it wont kick on until there is enough 134a in the system to be above the preset pressure for the low pressure switch.

Dodge Ram AC not blowing cold

By pass both pressure switches one at a time with small wire or a paper clip. If comperssor kicks on replace the swich that you bypassed.
if not it could be the fan clutch ot the compressor. Compressor runs about $400.00

1500 Conversion Van AC stays on, van overheats. Pulled the AC clutch fan relay and it fixed the overheating thus far, but really need the AC this time of the year. Please help.

ONE SUGGESTION COULD BE TO SWAP THE RELAY FOR ANOTHER TO SEE IF THIS FIXES THE PROBLEM. IF IT DOESN'T, THEN PERHAPS THE COMPRESSOR CLUTCH IS STUCK IN THE CLOSED POSITION. UNPLUG THE CLUTCH TO SEE IF THE COMPRESSOR STOPS. HOPE THIS HELPS. PLEASE KEEP ME POSTED. THANKS FOR USING FIX-YA AND FOR AN HONEST RATING. GOOD LUCK
