I have 1998acura 3.0cl. The other day both the outside and inside dooor handle will not unlatch the door. I can't get the door open to remove the inner panel to get at the problem. HELP

  • dr23db Sep 01, 2010

I lifted the doortrim as instructed and lifted the rear part of the door panel enough to see inside the door. the interior handle and rod is connected to the inside handle and on the latch end . It appears to fully move and lifts part of the latch as far up as there is a stop to prevent further movement. anything else i can hook onto since the is rod attached and moves the (i think the latch) thanks

Hi! The door actuator is stuck definitely that's why you cant open the door inside out. There's no way to access the door from the inside for the door trim is in the way. I suggest the you lift the plastic fittings outside the door just beneath the window and door then use a thin metal sheet to pull the metal wire on the actuator to open the door. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

With the window rolled down, try and use a metal coat-hanger to grab the door hinge and open it. Then once it is opened, remove all the door panel screws, then gently pry the rest of the panel off. You will likely see the door rods inside have fallen off.

Make sure the lock is not engaged. Make sure the latch to hold door close moves freely

SOURCE: Interior Door Handle

It should be able to be replaced without removing the door panel.
However, removing the door panel is a very simple process. Remove the bolts through the armrest, and pop the door panel loose (it's held on with plastic friction clips) They do make a tool for removing the panel, (just a couple of bucks) or if you're carefule, you can do it with a putty knife and a screw driver ((basically you pry the panel away from the door, replacement is just popping it back on.
Once it's loose, slide up, it is hooked over into the window channel (you do want to have the window down).

SOURCE: rightside interior door handle not opening door

It could mean the rod connecting the handle to the latch has broken. You'll need to remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. and you can access the innards of the door

SOURCE: The interior door handle on the driver's side of

remove the screws that fasten the interior door panel to the door.  Visually inspect the handle assembly. there will be two cables that connect the handle and lock button to the door lock assembly.  I would bet that the L-shaped end of the interior door handle cable broke.  The replacement is self explanatory for the handle. Google the door lock assembly which isn't as visable.  Bob

Why won't the inside Driver Door Handle work after being replaced

Make sure if it is equipped with a child safety lock on the inside of door jamb below or above the latch is unlocked. If that is ok then check to be sure the cable or rod to the interior handle is properly connected to the latch, remove door panel and if you can't see it directly you may have to use a mirror and flashlight to see if all is connected if so work the interior door handle while looking at all moving parts and tracking down where it is not doing it's function.

Opening mechanism inside front door not working - How do I get door open?

Parts are available at a salvage yard. Getting the door open is going to be your problem "unless" you pull the seat out and have room to take door panel off to open the door with the mechanism manually.

The cable going to must have come undone or handle leaver inside is broken. The interior door panel will have to be removed to verify problem.

Broken passenger door handle

Same problem. I have a 2000 Suzuki Esteem GL. A year ago the driver's door handle broke. Heard a sound and then it was loose. Could not open it from outside. Had to open front passenger door, open the driver's door from inside and then go out again to enter from the driver's door. FRUSTRATING. My mechanic had to take the door apart to fix it. Just a week ago, my front passenger door died on me. Can't open it from outside nor inside. The door won't open. This is such a stupid problem that costs lots to repair. Never will buy a Suzuki again. Had too many problems with it (had to fix gas tank, doors that won't open, front axle...).
