Hi, The timing chain could cause a no start problem. You should first check for spark at the spark plus and fuel. See if you can hear the fuel pump running. You can do this by removing the gas cap and having someone listen for it to come on when you turn try and start the car. Knowing these two things will help in diagnosing the problem.

My 85 chevy cavalier won't start. While driving there was a loud pop then engine shut off. It has power, fuel, and spark. Cranks but won't turn over. did a compression test and one cylinder is low. Is...

Well one cylinder with low compression would be a valve or timing chain problem - and a timing chain problem could cause it not to start.
Spark timing won't have any affect on compression.

My timing chain tensioner was loose, however i kept driving my car cause i had important errands to run. When I parked it to go in the store and came back out and started it up again it wouldn't. Lights...

If the tensioner was loose and the chain had jumped a slot, you would have a hard time even starting the car if it even start at all. It would crank and everything but just would not start. The starter has no correlation with the tensioner. A bad starter will either do nothing, or it would clunk and not turn over.

Car shuts off while driving

if car shuts off while driving it could be a bad crank sensor. a bad crank sensor will shut car off while driving, then it will not start for about 10 minutes, when it starts it runs fine until it goofs up again. the popping could be the sensor for it controls timing along with the cam sensor.
