Light will provide a stored code. Most large parts outlets will do a free scan. The scan results will point you in a direction for testing.
You will also need a good volt/ohmeter and a manual (chiltons or haynes) to use as a guide for individual component tests.
If you don't test and just guess, it will cost you far more than a shop would charge to actually fix the problem.

That is your check engine light. It signals that your jeep needs service, that something is wrong with your vehicle. Have it checked.

2001 jeep cherokee compression guage at 80

generally it turns outto be one of three things 1. bad sending unit (switch) 2. stuck pressure relief valve in pump (not often) 3. bad gauge head (less than not often)(rare). You can attach a mechanical gauge to the engine and read actual oil pressure (attaches right where sender screws in). That will tell you if the problem is inside the engine or in the gauge system. If it turns out to be inside the engine you can add Marvel oil...many times the problem will clear up in a few days.
Be aware though that very high pressures can cause the oil filter to split or the seal to leak. Most quality filters are tested to about 100psi.(no idea about cheap ones if the test them at all)
