Question about 1989 Ford Mustang

1 Answer

Can an Idle Air Control Valve for a 1989 Mustang 2.3 litre be cleaned? Because I can't get the idle any lower than 900 rpm and the idle adjustment screw is as far as it can go. I've cleaned the throttle body, but did nothing, I'm assuming that it's the Idle Air Control?

Idles at 900 rpm but when cold revs up to 2200rpm not all of the time some times stals

Your automatic choke is in need of adjustment.

Should be about 2200 when cold and 900 when warmed up. It is not stepping down properly. EZ fix.

Hi, my rpm stays on high after cleaning the idle control valve

An IAC (idle air control) motor is designed to adjust the engine idle RPM speed by opening and closing an air bypass passage inside the throttle body. The cars computer or ECM (electronic control module) receives information from various sensors and will output signals to adjust the IAC motor in or out to adjust engine idle speed by controlling engine idle air. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How to raise the idle 100 rpm on ford f150 5.4

have your idle air control motor cleaned. there are no idle adjustments on this engine. typically the idle air control valve becomes gummed up with carbon. while cleaning the valve you may also want to clean the mass air flow sensor. you will need special cleaners for both which can be purchased at any auto parts store.

Its idling rough

Check idle air control system (valve, hoses and wires). Check air intake and check the sensors installed in the air intake. Check vacuum for leaks.

Those listed are the most common faults causing fast idle in this type of engine.

High --1600 rpm ?? rpm idle

The normal idle speed is below 1,000 rpm...between 800 to 900 rpm. I suspect that the idle-air control motor has seized and can no longer automatically adjust the engine's idle speed. This part is also responsible for slightly increasing idle speed when the airconditioning is switched on to compensate for the added engine load. Some cars even have a "step-up" solenoid to increase idle.

When replacing the idle-air control motor, remember to clean the port that IAC motor goes into; there will be some carbon build-up that may prevent the part's cone-shaped valve from seating properly. A can of intake valve spray helped along with some Q-tips works well.

Hope this helped.

Have a great day !!!

How can I tell if I need a new air idle control valve?
If your car has a rough idle or the idle cycles up and down, then chances are that you have a bad idle control valve. On modern vehicles, the purpose of the idle air control valve is to regulate your idle, and keep the idle smooth. The idle valve is controlled by the ECU or the computer, and when in gear the idle should be between 800 and 1000 rpm, and not in gear, between 700 and 900 rpm

1998 isuzu amigo 2.2l 5 spd 4 cyl .\r\ni need to

in all fuel injected cars you do not adjust idle. All you can do is clean the throttle and replace the Idle Air Control valve and check data thru a scanner to see if any sensors are out of specs. If this car has a maf sensor in the air filter tube it could become contaminated and cleaning or replacemnet will allow it to see more air which in turn allows the computer to add more fuel for better idling and accelration.
