My 2005 Jeep Liberty 3.7 is stuck in 4Lo and only goes to neutral, not 4Hi or 2Hi. I checked the transfer case and the cable to the shift lever is broke. How do I get it back in 2Hi so I can fix the cable!...

why not replace the cable. first.? its bad fix it, replace it.
sure you need 2h, sure, but that must be done by hand.
jack up all 4 wheels, and move the lever to 2H,
by hand, its just a lever. but you need to get stress off axles (tires off ground) so you can shift by hand. at transfer case
and forget the silly lights until you fix cable and shifting.
best is key in pockets.
transmission in neutral
tires off ground,
the transfer case shifts more easy, like that, with just fingers on lever on box. (the shifter lever has , gain, that is, Archimedes, lever advantage, with that missing, by hand is harder, see?>)
mech, 101 , answer. that.

this care came with 3 transfer cases.
if you look at the box, rear, the tag there says what you have. look.
NV231, (part time)
241gen2, part time
and 242 (full time)
we cant guess that so answers will be vague.

step 2 in the fsm, states (cable removal)
2: raise vehicle.

for sure you can shift by hand, if the box is not seized
did you check the oil level yet, (gear lube) at the filler hole?
dip finger in, get finger wet? if not , hummmmmmmm

My 1997 Chevy Cavalier automatic transmission is stuck in neutral and the shifter just glides from park, won't engage in any gears.

If the shift handle moves extremely freely (more than normal), changes are that the shift cable has become disconnected from the shift lever. This would explain the indicator not moving out of neutral.
You will need to access the shift lever by removing the console cover. Once you access the shifter check the cable connection to the level. If the cable is broken, it will need replacement. If the cable clip has broken or fallen off, it will need to be reattached.

Why is my van stuck in neutral and how do I fix it?

Could have possibly broken the shifter cable, or one of the ends might have come off, either of the shifter or the transmission.

Shift lever blocked in position D ?

Could be the park neutral switch. It senses that foot is on the brake pedal so shifter can be moved.

I have a suZuki samari, and the four wheel drive is stuck in neatral. How do I fix it?

I'm assuming you know how the shift works.......sometimes it is a little difficult to position the lever correctly. Due to a possible problem with the plastic "cup" that supports the shift lever, you will need to remove the shift lever from the transfer case, and Use a big screw driver to move the mechanism to the neutral position. Many Samurai suppliers offer the kit to fix the shift

MY 2006 HHR IS STUCK IN REVERSE, HOW DO I FIX THIS? SHIFT LEVER IS IN PARK!

For a quick fix to get it to shut off and not go anywhere, drop it into Reverse, which should equal neutral, assuming your shift lever has somehow skipped up one gear. Pull the parking brake, and then, try and find someone who specializes in re-linking a transmission. I've got to admit I'm no good at doing this for automatics.
