Question about Pontiac Aztek

1 Answer

I cannot get my key or my valet key to go into the ignition. Is there a reset button or something? I drove it all over town yesterday, was out of the vehicle at least three times and locked the car. Came out of a meeting and unlocked the door, and could not get the key into the ignition. What can I do?

If you have a spare key try that key first. If neither key works your tumbler has probably went bad and needs replaced. You can either use a locksmith or auto shop to have this done. I say this due to the fact that most people do not have the special tools needed to take the steering wheel off and disassemble the column to replace the switch. This does require some knowledge of the works of the column, so if you are not knowledgable in this area please don't attempt yourself since damage can occur.

2000 Tundra security system will not reset has shut down everything and will not crank. Tried the key in the door, key in ignition, searched for a valet button or toggle, nothing. No valet button

this year model did not come from the factory with a security system but many were installed at the dealer, is there a button under the steering column? if so i recommend you delete the alarm, if you ever have issues with the battery this will happen again. follow the wiring from the red light to the alarm control module and unplug the main clear connetor from the unit, also at the ignition switch you would have to unplug the ignition switch connector from the wire lead that goes to the alarm and reconnect the trucks factory connector to the igniton switch to take the ignition out of the alarm circuit

you are probably best to contact a toyota dealer as this could be related to the battery change and now car thinks its being stolen as you dont have key fob which sends random codes to the security system

Charged battery on 1997 Toyota Camry now immobilizer will not lock doors and car will not start

Here is the reset procedure:
1. Have the Valet Button in the OUT position. ( It is located on the dash panel left of the steering column)
2. Connect the battery - the alarm will sound.
3. Put the key in the ignition and turn to the ON position,
4. Push the Valet Button to the IN position.
The alarm will be reset, and the Valet Button will glow red.

Move the Valet Button to the OUT position again.
Repeat steps 3 & 4 and the Valet Button will become unlighted.
The car will start and everything will be fine.

I have a 2000 dodge intrepid. The alarm never worked on it. We bought it used and all of a sudden when we go to unlock the door it turns on. Now the car won't start. I've looked online for answers and...

The 2000 Dodge Intrepid is equipped with an alarm system that is triggered when unauthorized entry is attempted. In some situations, such as having the Intrepid valet parked or when it is being serviced by a mechanic, the alarm system needs to be disarmed so it doesn't go off. Disarming the alarm will prevent it from being activated until it is armed again.
Difficulty: Moderate Instructions

  1. 1 Insert the key into the ignition.
  2. 2 Turn the ignition switch to "ON." Do not start the engine.
  3. 3 Press and hold the valet/override button within five seconds of turning the ignition on. The valet button is located beneath the steering column.
  4. 4 Release the valet/override button after the security indicator light turns off.
  5. 5 Turn the ignition switch off.

have to do it in this order

I bought a Chevy Trailblazer, used, had keyless remote access Viper Alarm after manufacturer. Had trouble with transmission and alarm....took to Chevy dealer they replaced transmission. Now the remote...

You need to find the black push button called the valet button. That is the overide. Get in the car turn the key to IGN as the alarm is going off and then you have either 5 or 10 seconds to push that button once and then 2-5 seconds later the alarm is shut off. To put the car into valet mode which means no alarm at all you put the key to IGN push that button once then pull key out at which point the blue light should turn solid blue.

Or option two is you open a door and hit the lock, then unlock, then lock button again on the remote and the blue led will be solid which means no crazy alarm.

Will a 1997 Town car shut off after awhile when using the valet key or a copied key? The dealer told me he thought it might.

No it will not. The only difference with a valet key is should not be able to open the glove box or the trunk. If you copied it valet key, it'll do the same as a valet key. If you copied the original key, then it will do the same as the original key. I don't know why the dealer told you this because it is not true. If the car starts, then the issue is not with the key.

I have a van and wont start

If it is an aftermarket alarm try this. Disconnect the battery. Put the ignition to run, reconnect the battery, and it should start. After it is running, finding the valet switch. Usually a small black button on the driver side panels. Push it and the alarm should sit in valet.
