2004 Ford Excursion-instrument panel not wrkg-speedometer/tach along with fuel/temp/oil gauges not wkg. This panel is all analog except for mileage indicator (digital). Turn signal/emerg indicators ok. This happened suddenly w/o warning-checked fuse...its ok. Would you kindly advise what possible cause and how much to get fixed? Thank you, Eddie

instrument cluster went out while driving my 2004 ford excursion. Continued to my destination...all accessories worked properly except the instrument panel. Vehicle was parked for approx 3 hours, after arriving at my destination.
Upon my leaving, the vehicle would not start, acted as if battery dead. Turned over 1x very slowly, then clicked several times. Dead.

The previous "expert" sent me to a ehow page...which did not answer my question.

I'm hoping that someone has dealt with this kind of scenario, and can advise me as to what would cause the panel to go out plus cause the battery to go dead...at the same time.

    Thank you for your assistance
    Eddie

Analog Battery Gauge Located On Instrument Panel.Remove the analog cluster and check out its connection at the back.Wiggle the connectors a bit.Check out for any bad wire or cable connections. If any of the wire burnt out or loose cable then its the problem and the wire or cable has to be replaced. Also if the cluster connector wires are shorting the other wires in the dash then that can drain the battery.Get the connectors checked. To remove instrument panel:--- 1)Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove 2 cover panels and screws holding instrument cluster. Lift out instrument cluster. Remove connector seal. Disconnect connectors and remove instrument cluster. And at the back you will see the connectors and wires passing from connectors.Check the wires and connectors. Thanks. keep updated for any more query.you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

My speedometer works but my digital odometer does not work on my 2003 old alero

This is one guy's advice: Replace the speedo head, that should take care of the problem."

This site is also interesting because the guy said
General Motors cars had instrument cluster problems from 2003 through 2006. When I researched instrument cluster problems on the Internet what I found raised concerns in me. Many of those vehicles had problems that began with the instrument cluster, but eventually led to the engine refusing to start.
(an electronic instrument cluster, digital instrument panel or digital dash for short, is a set of instrumentation, including the speedometer, that is displayed with a digital readout rather than with the traditional analog gauges. Many refer to it simply as a digital speedometer.)

There should be an instrument panel fuse in the fuse box located inside the car. Check the fuse and replace in needed.

Just bought a used 1995 Honda Prelude and the Tach and speedometer work along with the clock but I can't see any other gauges. (Gas, oil, temp and whatever else might be there. What is the problem?

Since you just bought the car, I thought that you might not be aware of the instrument lighting control. I apologize if you know this:
The dial on the dashboard to the left of the instrument panel controls the brightness of the instrument panel lights. Turn the dial to adjust the brightness.
To reduce glare at night, the fuel and temperature gauges dim when you turn on the parking lights or headlights. You then adjust their brightness when you adjust the instrument panel brightness. Turn the dial up as far as it will go to return the fuel and temperature gauges to their daytime brightness.
Hope it's that simple.

1999 Cherokee, Changing out instrument cluster?

Unfortunately I believe this can not be done because the sensor for idiot lights are different from the sensors for gauges. I don't know this for an absolute fact but in most instances this is true.
