How do you replace the headlight on a 2005 Scion XA

I have found three screws, two on top, and one under the bumber on the inner part of the headlamp assembly, where is the 4th?

  • Terry Anderson Aug 31, 2010

Seems the bumper is keeping me from pulling out the assembly. Two screws on the top, one under the bumper, and it seems loose, but no go.

Remove the three bolts and two screws from the front of the lens. You will need a ten mm socket with and extension to reach the outside recessed bolt. The other two are located directly in front of the radiator area and are easily removed. You may need to remove one or two screws holding the rubber seal. That depends on your model and year. Head light unit now slides out forward and allows access to the bulb connections. You may have to wiggle it a bit to get it to move. ------------- More detailed procedure as follows:-- Open up the hood. Get the Phillips Screw Driver in Hand. There is 4 Tabs with screws in them that hold the xA's Headlight on. Take the Screw driver and remove all the screws from those 4 points. In order to remove the bottom screw, you will have to pull away the bumper Up then Out Slowly and Gently at these points. Then push the bumper down, very little, just enough to stick the Phillips screw driver in and remove the 4th screw. It is alot easier than it sounds. After you remove the screws, gently pull out the headlight, remove the bulbs, (which in turn frees the headlight) and finish removing the headlight. Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. After the 3 screws are removed. You will have to push the bumper down. towards lower side very little, just enough to stick the Phillips screw driver in and remove the 4th screw. Yow will see the screw as the bumper is pushed down.dont push it too much, just a bit and screw will be seen.

    Ok try this:-------
    1) Remove your Grill by popping 4 plastic rivets out and pulling up and out.
    2) Remove bumper
First remove the screw connecting the bumper to the front quarter panel located behind the plastic in each wheel well

    3) Crawl underneath and remove six(6) screws connecting the bottom of the bumper to the plastic underbody panels. Using a 10mm Socket remove the two(2) bolts attaching the bumper to the undercarriage.
    4) Starting on one side firmly pull the bumper off. Set aside.

    5) Remove the 4 screws holding your headlight on. Gently pull off and disconnect your bulbs.
